~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
I am kind of tired of taking pictures of this shawl! Jonny suggested that I cast on for something else…but actually I do already have other projects on the needles. I am only working on this shawl though until it’s finished, and until it is, I am only going to photograph it. That’s motivation. Of course motivation doesn’t necessarily create more time. I am working on the charted portion at the end of the shawl…I think I have about thirty rows to go.
I finally settled on a book last week, pulling C.S. Lewis’s Mere Christianity off the shelf. A classic I have owned for years, but never read, and a perfect choice for me right now.

I linked up! I admire your willingness to take on bigger projects…they definitely intimidate me!
Some projects feel like they take forever, don’t they?
I thought your Oaklet Shawl was gorgeous. I started my own this week. Hope to finish it by next week’s Yarn Along!
I love the colors in your shawl!
That shawl is beautiful! Good choice in yarn colors. 🙂
It is looking lovely though – and almost finished!
I think you’ll enjoy Mere Christianity. Your yarn is very lovely to look at… I so much enjoy subtle colors; they are very satisfying.
I read C.S.Lewis once several years ago.I had to take it in little chunks to get my mind around what he was saying. 🙂
I am reading two books right now…Total Forgiveness by Kendall and You Were Born for This by Wilkinson.
This is my first yarn along! Thanks for a great place to share.
I do love the color way on that shawl. Hang in there… it will be beautiful when you are done!
Mere Christianity was one of the first Christian books I read in highschool. It is a concise, refreshing and convicting read. I just love C.S. Lewis.
The yarn *is* lovely enough to justify more pictures! I can’t wait to see the finished shawl. 🙂 I’m sure you can’t either lol, I find big projects don’t suit my impatience. 😉
After all that work, you’re going to love, love wearing that shawl!
Your yarn is just beautiful, so I certainly don’t mind seeing pics of it again ;). And I love your single minded resolve! I seem to have lost mine and just cast on new projects at the slightest whim.
I actually have “Mere Christianity” on my phone at the moment, but (much like knitting) I keep getting pulled away to other reads, so I haven’t finished it yet. Actually, I’ve read it before — about 30 years ago (!), but I’ve forgotten so much, I want to read it again — hopefully soon as I finish “The Guernsey . . . ” which I can not put down at the moment.
Blessings,
G
Progress though 30 rows to go is definitely the end in sight.
I have just about reached the halfway point on my blanket. The deadline is 2 weeks…. I doubt it will be finished!
Oh I am right there with you–or was. I had a blanket I was working on and I got tired of photographing it. I finished it this weekend and I feel so free! Your shawl is lovely and you have a great book choice going.
*smiles*
PS: Your library needs to get a new librarian!
At least your making progress. I would like to post a finished project soon!
All good things take time. It will be stunning when it’s done. 🙂
it’s really pretty dear ginny, i know what you mean about finishing, i’m the same way. i don’t know if i’ll be able to get a y.a. post together for today (i have done very little knitting in the last three weeks), but it’s nice to read yours!
Great book choice! Good luck with the shawl! It is going to be beautiful.
I felt that way a couple of weeks ago when I was working on a blanket for what seemed like forever.
I had my yarn along post all composed in my head. But decided to skip this week because I was not loving my project so last night I spent hours on Ravelry looking for a new blanket to be made with my stash. And I hadn’t started a new book.
Great choice of books to read and your shawl is looking quite lovely – the yarn is truly yummy 🙂
I know what you mean…But keep moving forward. And I really the yarn.

I just love that yarn you are using for your shawl. It looks so soft and floppy! Gorgeous!
I have a collection of CS Lewis books on my shelf that I promised myself I have to get to before years end! Hoping this summer allows for lots and lots of reading! 🙂
Keep up the stick-to-it-iveness. Can’t wait to see the color on you. I don’t know if it’s such a good thing for me to keep visiting here, Ginny. Every time I see that yarn, I want to place an order for Madeline Tosh! 🙂
My husband just got finished reading that book. A good one.
That is one book I have on my to-read list as well – would love it if you might consider sharing your thoughts.
I’m glad I’m not the only one getting tired of taking pictures every week of the same shawl! It’s hard for us to see progress sometimes, but all of a sudden it’s complete. It does look beautiful!
That is a lovely green blend you’re working with. Thanks for letting us share
I read Mere Christianity in college, and recently loaned it to a friend, so my husband picked up another copy from our church library for us to read. I haven’t started it yet, but I think I will today!
I enjoyed joining in so much last week that I’m back!
I like that idea for motivation – I have just cast on a big project for Summer so I will keep that in mind.
I haven’t read the CS Lewis one, either. I might look it up at the library.
Oh yes, I’m in a similar place … knitting the same three shawl projects and feeling like I never talk or show pictures of anything else! But motivation we need so photograph we must!
My second yarn along…… but with lots of weeks in between!! I will get the hang of knitting…I will!! Your shawl is looking lovely and I think I’ll work my way up to knitting one for myself – one day! ;o)
I am so mad that I did not see that little whale last week. I want to knit something for Lucy’s birthday next week and I wish I would have SEEN the whale in person. You have such a GREAT stash of yarn to choose from when making cute stuff like that. I have a shawl I need to finish too…but it is not happening. I get so HOT when I am knitting it because it pools in my lap. I want to make a little toy.
It really is lovely, although I tire of constantly photographing long projects too so I know how you feel. 🙂
Oh, I do know what you mean about being tired of photographing the one project. I have been doing the same thing – although it’s more because I’ve already packed up all my yarn & *can’t* start anything new than that I’m being particularly disciplined about it… xo
Really looking forward to the captures you make of your shawl to be. It is looking gorgeous!
Hoping time finds you so you can finish the shawl 🙂
Wow, charts! One day I will attempt to make something using a chart. Until then, I’ll look at your beautiful shawl. It is gorgeous and I love the yarn!
How could you not love Jonny just a smidge more when he suggests casting something else on?? 🙂
The shawl is going to be gorgeous when it’s finished. Actually Ginny, it is gorgeous already, I’m enjoying the photos and I’m guessing I’m not the only one.
C.S. Lewis is a master craftsman. Hope you enjoy reading the book. x
I have the exact book on my shelf and while all my children have read it, I have not. I think I will make it a summer must read.
May your shawl come off the needles soon. It is looking lovely so far. Jacinta
I really enjoyed Mere Christianity, Lewis is that special sort of person who writes for “everyman”.
And I love seeing pictures of your shawl :0) The colours are so beautiful and natural.
I’m not tired of looking at it yet either. Love that yarn. Can’t wait to see the finished piece. 30 rows and counting. 🙂
I can empathise with your library visit Ginny. I only had one little-one to take with me so it was always an easy task. It’s a shame that the librarian isn’t more supportive and helpful. You are raising your children to be the future of the library. It would be lovely if she could engage them. Thankfully most are…
Lewis’ book sounds interesting. I was talking to someones when I was in work a couple of days ago whose husband is writing a new biography about him and had discovered some unknown manuscripts that unfortunately the family won’t permit him to publish…a shame… It’s funny how the conversation moved from buying knitting yarn to literature…just like in yarn along…
I felt the same way I keep sharing the same project. Hopefully next week I’ll share two finished projects.
Still is beautiful every time you take a photo. I have felt the same way about many projects that I have photographed, over and over again.
Beautiful yarn and beautiful knitting, as always Ginny. I admire your focus ; )
Heartiest congratulations on your beautiful boy turning one, he looks the true prince in his birthday crown x
Haha, love the motivation. It’s a lovely shawl though. And I’ve wanted to read Mere Christianity too but have never gotten around to it (in its entirety, I have read selections.)
The greens in the shawl are so pretty. I felt the same way about the baby blanket I just made. It seemed to be all I talked about.
Lewis is always a worthwhile read and Mere Christianity is one of his best … I love the yarn colors of the shawl; can’t wait to see it done. BTW, thanks for the heads-up about the read-aloud book-along … sounds like fun!
