Several of you assured me that I would love my Barn Sweater, remarking that you wear yours all the time. And it’s true, I love it! I finished it just in time for actual winter temperatures to arrive, and I’ve been wearing it constantly. I’m so glad that I used Beaverslide wool to knit it. It’s sturdy and warm, and I know it will hold up to lots of wear. I had been saving a set of WoolyMossRoots black walnut buttons for I don’t know how long, three years maybe, and was so happy as I sewed them on. I think they suit this sweater just perfectly.
But, there was one little thing that I couldn’t and didn’t take into account when I began this sweater last summer…

My Barn Sweater doesn’t quite fit in the middle because we are expecting a new little one in late June! We’re pretty excited. BABY!!! You might think that it gets to be routine after so many, but it doesn’t. I can hardly believe it. And that is despite the fact that we already know the sex of this little one.
Maybe we should play a little guessing game! If you include your guess of whether this baby is a boy or a girl in a comment, I will randomly select one of the correct guessers and send you one of my favorite books, and what I happen to be re-reading right now: a new hard copy of My Antonia. Unless you already own two copies (like me). In that case, I’ll send you Kristin Lavransdatter
. I’ll reveal the news end of the week in a new post, and announce/email the winner.
****Guessing game is over! She’s a girl!! And I’ve just emailed Claire, who commented, “Girl, girl, girl!
Congratulations! Wonderful news. You look beautiful. Would love to read either of your favorite books. Blessings to you both!”
Thank you all for your congratulations and for playing along with me!!
So excited for you all! Yeah! I am guessing girl!
I love the sweater Ginny!
Well, I’m not sure if you remember or not, but years ago I hosted a virtual baby shower for Amanda [the habit of being], in fact I knit your wee hat as a gif,t and while I would love for it to be a surprise I thought I would let you know that I would love to host one again, this time for YOU! Each week you offer so many of us something to look forward to, a place to gather and share two things we all love, knitting and reading. Now I would like to give something back to you. I was thinking a day in March or April, but will let you know more as I make plans.
I am thrilled for all of you and can’t wait to see the newest wee one!
How exciting! I guess….girl
I guess a girl!! I’m so happy for you Ginny! Each pregnancy and child is such a gift. I pray the Lord continually give you joy and strength for each day and His perfect peace to guard your heart and mind! I love the barn sweater! I’m still finishing up the Sunday Sweater for my Josie. I love knitting it. Many Blessings to you!
So incredible!!! It must be in the water. I feel like everyone is pregnant right now, haha! I just found out we’re expecting an August baby (in the hot humid south – we’re in TN.) it will be our fourth child. It was unexpected, but definitely not unwanted. I’m excited!!
I’m going to guess boy! I stink at guessing though. ❤️ So happy for y’all!!!
Congratulations Ginny!! May God be with you and baby! I love your sweater, the color and the buttons and I guess I will have to cast one on. (I also love those big pockets on your jeans btw, cute.) OK I am not going to guess what your baby will be, but I am very happy for you and your family:)
I am so very happy for you and yours. How are you feeling this time around? You were so unwell with your last pregnancy. I am praying for your good health and good feelings while you carry number eight. God bless you all.
It’s a girl!! Congratulations and a hug in Christ from Uruguay !!
Congrats!!! How exciting!! I’m guessing girl

Congratulations!!! I am guessing another little girl. I absolutely love your sweater and think I might need to pull out my Taproot.
Dear Ginny,
I am Jule (like Julie ) from Germany and I have come across your blog a few days ago. I felt touched by the way you describe the relationship to your child of your heart! Congratulations to your pregnancy! May the Lord bless you and the baby! I would guess it os a girl…
Many greetings from Germany
Jule, mother of two
Woohoo!!! We Ortegas are so very excited for your family!! You look beautiful! Because your belly looks high, I’m guessing a girl. 🙂 God is SO good!
Congratulations!!! What a blessing! I’m guessing a baby girl. I just started My Sisters The Saints, based upon your recommendation and can not put it down. I have a long wish list with Amazon of other books you liked that I’ll try to get to throughout the year. I would LOVE one of your books!
Congratulations! I’m guessing a boy. Prayers for a healthy and happy pregnancy!
girl.
I will guess a girl. So excited for you, but sure hope after June you still have time to blog for all of us. And can’t wait to see pictures with a new baby! I so enjoy your photos and blog.
Oh! That is so exciting! I was wondering when I read the title what it meant, it’s such a sweet way to announce it! 🙂
I’m not terribly good at guessing, but my guess is a girl.
I’m going with girl! God bless you and congrats!!!
Congratulations!! I’m guessing girl!
Can I change my answer? I’m going to guess BOY now after re-reading your blog. I was looking at Quince & Co. website and I’ve decided you’d make a great model for their site. I show my husband very little of what I’m looking at on the internet, basically because I didn’t think he would be interested in knitting, sewing, etc. I showed him your picture last night at bed. He’s always thought pregnant women were beautiful and you were no exception. So excited for you!
Oh my! So excited for you all! I am guessing a girl. You need girls in between boys to even the energy!:)
I’m betting it’s another baby boy! You go, girl!
Congratulations! I’m going to guess it’s a boy.
Ginny I love your Barn Sweater! Congratulations on your news of a new baby – I’m guessing girl. Best wishes to all of you.
Girl! And congratulations that is so exciting.
Yippee! I love babies because that means more fun and quick knitting projects as well as lots of joy ? Congrats! That color of sweater looks fabulous on you. I too am guessing a girl!
Congratulations! My guess is a girl…….my favorite to dress.I know you are very experienced at all of this but do get your rest.
OH, I’m imagining another little boy, but I’m officially guessing a GIRL anyway!! Because I want to. 🙂 <3 Best wishes no matter what!
Oh my goodness, a June baby! As far as guessing we have a 50/50 chance, but I am hoping you are expecting another little girl! I love your sweater and it may be just the pattern for some beautiful black and grey blended Alpaca I have been sitting on. It is not Suri Alpaca, but a blend of two Huacaya fleeces I purchased at SVFF three years ago at the fleece sale and I had it mill spun so I would actually use it because I definitely haven’t had time for spinning while working and going to school for the past two years.
So happy for you! I’m going to guess a boy. I have 3 (and 3 girls) and boys are pretty wonderful.
Congratulations…I am so excited for you!!! I think this baby will be a girl!
Boy?
Congratulations! This baby ,girl or boy ,will come into a loving home. I feel like I know you all. I’m predicting—–a girl.
Take good care of yourself.
Congratulations! I am guessing it is going to be a little girl. Best wishes and take care!
Oh Ginny!
God’s blessings to you and your family!! Just so happy for you.
I’m guessing a little man (boy) will be coming this summer.
Also a beautiful sweater, btw. I’m about to order the children’s knitting book that you said was wonderful. I’d like to learn and I think a kids book will help me and my melancholic “perfectionist” temperment. My little Sarah announced, out of the blue this morning, that she’d like to learn to knit.
Blessings and peace,
Becky
Congratulations Ginney, I hope you are well and able to get rest when you need it. I am sure you are a lovely family and all help each other.
Your sweater is beautiful, you seem to be able to get so much done. I think I must be the worlds slowest knitter, I watch television while knitting and quite often, have stopped knitting for ages without realizing but am limiting television to two hours per day and hoping to be more productive.
Once again, all the best and take care of yourself.
Kind wishes
Wendy
I would love to guess one of each. I guess that wouldn’t be fair. I’ll guess boy. By the way- I’m so happy for your family.
I have been waiting for an announcement! It seemed to be ‘time.’ What a blessing! 🙂 Congratulations and God bless you and the little one! I will guess GIRL!!
Oh my goodness! Congratulations!!!! How exciting!!! I’m guessing girl. 😉
Congratulations! I am guessing a girl.
We have ten children 🙂
You are glowing and I would guess a little girl!
Congratulations!! And you’re right, the miracle never gets old. I’m guessing it’s a girl. Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy ;o)
I think you are having a baby boy. Congradulations!
I love your blog.
Congratulations to all! I’m guessing a little girl! Best wishes to you and yours!
AHHH! GINNY!!!! That is so wonderful!!!!! I’m so happy for you!
I already have both those books (surprised, right?) so I won’t guess, and I’m terrible at that anyway, but I can’t WAIT to see what the little babe is!
Your sweater is beautiful!!
Oh happy news! I’m guessing girl, because we have four little nieces right now who we have so much fun with!
