Rescued

Keats noticed her darting across the busy shopping mall parking lot and into some bushes next to the road.  “Look, Mommy!”  I pulled the van closer and parked, then hopped out and slowly walked over, afraid she would dart into the street.  She hissed at me and scooted a few feet further into the bushes when I reached for her.  I called Keats from the van and he held her attention so I could grab her from behind.  Grocery shopping was certainly more interesting than usual that day, and it was all very exciting for the kids.  They rescued a kitten, and they get to keep her.  Her name is Em-Em and we love her.  Trudy, on the other hand, thinks that Em-Em is ferocious.  She’s terrified, the poor dog.

Em-em has a very alert and intelligent gaze; brains as well as beauty, in that kitten, I’d wager. 🙂

Oh my cuteness! What an adorable and well-loved little creature! Our dog was not terrified, but very nervous, confused and concerned about the kittens we brought home in December. Since then she has become quite the doting kitten Mama, giving them daily head washings and keeping watch that they stay off the counters and don’t scratch up the legs of my desk. (Both of which they do many, many times a day. She is not good at her self-appointed job. But very dedicated.) Enjoy your newest baby!

Cute kitten! Please do make sure to keep her out of string/yarn! As a veterinarian who has seen too many string foreign bodies in cats’ intestines, I would hate to see your kids’ little best friend end up in a bad way.

I LOVE your little kitten!! And we are going through a similar experience right now. We have rescued an abandoned 3 week old kitten, and he is soooooo adorable! My little one has named him “Loki”. LOL! I love the pictures you have taken…and I think I should do a little blog post on my Loki too with lots of pictures. I am so happy for your kitten, and for you.

ADORABLE! We just got two free kittens from the woman who runs our co-op pick-up. She had a stray female birth kittens in her shed. They were ready to go when we went to pick up our co-op order. My kiddos LOVE them dearly. They are such sweet kittens too! And yes, all yarn must go in project bags now.

We say YES to rescues! My mom always did too, and I believe it taught us all compassion for those in need (of the animal OR human variety). That little sweetie will be the best pet, I’ll wager…gratitude for a roof, gentle hands, regular meals! Some of our most beloved pets have been rescues. This warmed my heart!

That is exactly what I was saying to Jonny this morning! I want to be the family that would never leave a kitten in a parking lot, because I do think that teaching compassion for animals does lead to compassion for humans as well! I was 12 years old the first time my mom was in a position to say yes to rescuing an animal, for us a dog, and it was such a happy time for us!

She is cute. I refuse to have a litter box in my house which is why we don’t have any cats. One of my kids is allergic to cat dander so I don’t have to listen to begging when we see a litter of kittens. As a knitter, I would train her now that yarn is off limits.
