~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
I’ve nearly finished Larkspur’s Bulle. My bum shoulder is slowing me down though! In truth, all the furious knitting I did on it last week may have contributed to my problem. I adore this pattern and am not sad at all that I will be knitting one for Beatrix next. Typically I hate repeating a pattern twice in a row!
I finished reading The Glass Castle over the weekend and felt a little bit devastated when it was over. Not so much because I was finished reading it, but I think the whole thing just settled on me once I closed the book. I admire the way the author told the story of her crazy (for lack of a better word) childhood.
Now I am back to reading Far From the Madding Crowd. It’s such a drastically different book on every level, so the transition was a bit tough at first!

Oh I love what you’re knitting. I hope your shoulder stops bothering you soon. I can sympathize with you over the pain. After reading your post from yesterday it is clear you and Johnny need a podcast. I hope I’ll be back later today and can add my yarn along link.
Love that color — looks like a New England foliage pile. So autum-y yummy. I can’t find a book to love these days. Maybe I’ll look in the public library for that one today..
Good, that are feeling better. Love the yarn and I will like to give it a try to that pattern too.
Whew, just made it before noon. The sweater is really coming along nicely! Hope your hand is better soon. Take it easy.
that yarn you used for the bulle is so lovely. it looks so nice and soft. perfect.
I hope your shoulder heals quickly mama! That’s got to be challenging with Silas. Good thing you’ve got lots of helpers in the house.
:)Lisa
That yarn is stunning. Keep resting that shoulder! Hope it heals quickly.
Madtosh in garter stitch…is there anything more gorgeous?
Just started reading your blog and am enjoying your world greatly. I Yarn Alonged.
i love the color of that yarn. i hope that your shoulder feels better soon, ginny. i have had trouble with my left shoulder/back since becoming a mother too. every six months or so, i do something to it, usually by picking up my daughter, that messes it up and it hurts so much, so i really sympathize with you. i think that motherhood is hard on the shoulders and back–so much lifting and carrying!
I love the Bulle…so much so that I purchased the pattern as well. I want to make it, but it looks like it may be a little bit advanced for me. We shall see. Lovely colored yarn by the way.
That yarn is beautiful! I can’t wait to share what I’ve been knitting you will be so proud! I knit one of your simple lace baby hats. Since I loved it so much I decided to knit a top down sweater with the lace pattern in it and will knit another baby hat to match. ( the first hat was knit to match the baby blanket I had knit)
I loooove the yarn you’re using. It seems wonderufl to knit with.
I just read your entry ‘in return’. I’m sorry for what happened. Maybe different views in Europe and the USA play a role. I don’t know.
You raise your kids at your beliefs and that’s your prerogative. Don’t bother to much about what everyone else is saying. But I know that’s often easier said than done.
You cán comment in English, most Europeans read and write English, but as you can see from me: not in a perfect way 🙂
I’m glad to say Jonny is handsome, or something he wants to here. He’s soo right :-))))
Oh, and I want to add: I always love your pictures.
So lovely, I really want to make this now! I think the yarn and project just sing together. 🙂
Oh, Ginny, love love love that yarn! (And whenever I see Larkspur’s name in print, I am reminded how beautiful it is)!
xo Jules
Love those colors; it looks so soft too. Hmm the Glass Castle is on my list. Thanks for the reminder of Far from the Maddening Crowd-going to add it to me reading list now.
Happy Yarn Along!
So pretty! I may have to add that to the queue!
Once again, I love the yarn and pattern! You are my knitting hero. Happy Knitting!
What lovely colours and knitting 🙂 Am glad to be back this week 🙂
I love the knitting…I am profoundly unmotivated (I am very pregnant) and have been knitting a little, but don’t want to take pictures. I read The Glass Castle….I felt the same way about it…I vascillated between that and being unable to believe it, although I do think it is true. I am impressed that you are reading Thomas Hardy–I love his writing but I find his bleak outlook on life tough to take these days–something about having children has made me crave happy endings.
wow – that colourway looks incredible. can’t wait to see the sweater!
It’s a beautiful pattern and gorgeous yarn! I can’t wait to see it on Larkspur (and to see what yarn you use for Bea’s). Have a lovely day, Ginny!
Love that colour. Hope the shoulder gets better soon.
That’s a really pretty yarn. Looks like a nice sweater.
I love the color of the yarn you are using Ginny! Do take care of your shoulder and be sure to give yourself a break from knitting 🙂
Love the yarn!
Thanks for the honest, thoughtful post from yesterday. Brave on many fronts.
Lastly–great to see the progress on the bathroom. Don’t know how you’re surviving, as we have only three kids and sometimes 2 1/2 baths just isn’t enough!
I hope your shoulder feels better soon. Knitting related injuries are the worst! Last year I had to take a break from knitting due to hand pain I developed after furiously knitting a shawl. I did a little research and was surprised to learn what a toll knitting can take on the body–who would have thought?
I love, love, love your Bulle–everything about it: the pattern, the yarn you chose, the color–and wish that I could make one for my daughters (who are both in junior sizes now) . If only I understood math well enough to adjust patterns to fit different sizes! But, no matter how hard I try I can’t get it right. I made a huge mistake calculating the amount of yarn I needed for the Tea Leaves cardi I’ve been knitting. (I still can’t figure out how it happened.) I think I’m going to have to set it aside and begin something else, since I’ve only got enough yarn to finish one sleeve!
A couple of winters ago I read a book that left me depressed for months. Since then (on the advice of my mother) I’ve been consciously trying to choose uplifting stories :- )
That yarn is gorgeous!
hi,
I write my yarn along on Tuesday night then try to link up on Wed when I get to work…but for some reason I can’t link from my work computer. Sigh. Here’s the link anyway: http://theknittygrittyhomestead.blogspot.ca/2012/10/yarn-along-colours.html
Love the colour of your sweater…like raspberries with cream! Delicious. Glass Castle is a tale of such resilience…amazing what children can survive and that they can thrive in adulthood. Heartbreaking, too.
The yarn is gorgeous and yes knitting won’t have helped. Knitting is my therapy so the pain is worth it on that score. Have you tried alternate hot and cold packs? Hope your app with medic goes well.
San x
That yarn is just delightful!
I am starting your Sunday Sweater and using some lovely, squishy, soft Cestari sent to me ages ago by a very sweet woman and clever knitter. The yarn and pattern seem perfect together…
That is a stunning yarn, really love it ! I too suffer from shoulder pain after an intense knitting session – and I never learn, as much as I promise myself I won’t do that again the very next new project I start is just far too exciting to put down 🙂
Not being able to knit is very frustrating, hope your shoulder heals soon. Love the yarn for the bulle.
Ginny, I can’t seem to find a button that takes back a few posts of yours. There used to be an arrow at the bottom or top of the page that said “older posts” and you could follow it. Is there still a feature like this for when you want to just click back a couple posts?
Never Mind! I found it.
I Ginny, I’m a French blogger and I’ve discovered your lovely blog by the babyblog. I was charmed by all the beauties on your blog and it decides me to join your “yarn along team”. I’m not sure I’ve pasted the good link for my blog I put it here again:

I’m sorry to hear about your shoulder, Ginny. I’ve been struggling with a bad wrist this week after over-doing things in the garden and it’s quite frustrating to need to rest but not knit, isn’t it? Sending healing vibes your way x
I love the color that you have chosen for the Bulle. It will be perfect for Larkspur’s coloring!
lovely colours in your knitting project
I have never knit with Madeline Tosh. I kind of feel like I would have a hard time justifying the cost to my husband as to why a young girl’s sweater would cost so much. But it’s so beautiful! And the color you chose is so perfect for fall/winter. I am about to start a Bulle for my own daughter soon! I can’t wait!
Hi Ginny ,
Hope your shoulder gets better soon…it’s so infuriating when you are a busy mum. still love that yarn colour it’s knitting up beautifully.
I cannot get over that yarn–absolutely gorgeous. What color is Beatrix’s going to be?
I have Bulle in my queue – it’s beautiful and I love the yarn you’ve chosen. It’s going to be gorgeous.
Hello Ginny, Larkspurs Bulle is looking lovely, I love the yarn you are using, Hope your shoulder is feeling better soon, must be very frustrating for you! I really enjoy reading your blog because your lifestyle is quite different to my own ( I only have 3 children! 🙂 ), but I see similarities in the joy you take in the simple things in life like family, nature, crafting and gardening. I like the glimpses you give into your world through your beautiful photos, and I don’t feel you are presenting yourself and your family as ‘a perfect family’. We are all just doing our best to live life the best way we can, and that is different for us all, so thank you for sharing! Have a lovely day, Julie x
I still love that yarn. I cannot wait to see it when it is finished. I’ve put it in my queue for Julia…
I have arthritis in my hands (and feet. and, now, knees.), and these days I can almost always trace a flare-up to some stretch of mad knitting that I’m sure contributed. It’s hard, isn’t it, getting used to not being able to do just what we want to do with impunity, because our bodies start to protest as we get older??
I’ll be back a little later on with my own link; I forgot to take a photo before the sun went down yesterday & so I have to wait a bit for some good light in my dark house! xo
Be careful with your shoulder, mine hurts so much but I can not stop crocheting. Not good …
Take care!
I took a peek at the Bulle pattern and can see why you don’t mind knitting it, it looks like a fun knit and the yarn color you pickes will look so good on Larkspur. I do hope your shoulder feels better soon and you can get back to normal activites.
The only Hardy books I’ve read is Tess of the D’Urbervilles and The Warden, both slow going! Love the color of the yarn 🙂
Looking forward to see Bulle when it’s done. Such a pretty colour!
