Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

I’ve nearly finished Larkspur’s Bulle.  My bum shoulder is slowing me down though!  In truth, all the furious knitting I did on it last week may have contributed to my problem.  I adore this pattern and am not sad at all that I will be knitting one for Beatrix next.  Typically I hate repeating a pattern twice in a row!

I finished reading The Glass Castle over the weekend and felt a little bit devastated when it was over.  Not so much because I was finished reading it, but I think the whole thing just settled on me once I closed the book.  I admire the way the author told the story of her crazy (for lack of a better word) childhood.

Now I am back to reading Far From the Madding Crowd.  It’s such a drastically different book on every level, so the transition was a bit tough at first!

Grab a button for your post or sidebar! Visit the Yarn Along page for additional button colors!
Below is a linky list if you’d like to link up and join the Yarn Along.
(1) Make sure the link you submit is to the URL of your blog post or your specific Flickr photo and not your main blog URL or Flickr Photostream. Please be sure and link to your current Yarn Along post, and not a Yarn Along post from a previous week.
(2) Include a link back to this post in your blog post or on your flickr photo page so that others who may want to join the Yarn Along can find us!
(3) If you have any trouble linking up, just email me and I will help you!
You can also join the Flickr Yarn Along group to share your knitting and reading photos anytime!

Oh I love what you’re knitting. I hope your shoulder stops bothering you soon. I can sympathize with you over the pain. After reading your post from yesterday it is clear you and Johnny need a podcast. I hope I’ll be back later today and can add my yarn along link.

i love the color of that yarn. i hope that your shoulder feels better soon, ginny. i have had trouble with my left shoulder/back since becoming a mother too. every six months or so, i do something to it, usually by picking up my daughter, that messes it up and it hurts so much, so i really sympathize with you. i think that motherhood is hard on the shoulders and back–so much lifting and carrying!

That yarn is beautiful! I can’t wait to share what I’ve been knitting you will be so proud! I knit one of your simple lace baby hats. Since I loved it so much I decided to knit a top down sweater with the lace pattern in it and will knit another baby hat to match. ( the first hat was knit to match the baby blanket I had knit)

I loooove the yarn you’re using. It seems wonderufl to knit with.

I just read your entry ‘in return’. I’m sorry for what happened. Maybe different views in Europe and the USA play a role. I don’t know.
You raise your kids at your beliefs and that’s your prerogative. Don’t bother to much about what everyone else is saying. But I know that’s often easier said than done.

You cán comment in English, most Europeans read and write English, but as you can see from me: not in a perfect way 🙂
I’m glad to say Jonny is handsome, or something he wants to here. He’s soo right :-))))

I love the knitting…I am profoundly unmotivated (I am very pregnant) and have been knitting a little, but don’t want to take pictures. I read The Glass Castle….I felt the same way about it…I vascillated between that and being unable to believe it, although I do think it is true. I am impressed that you are reading Thomas Hardy–I love his writing but I find his bleak outlook on life tough to take these days–something about having children has made me crave happy endings.

I hope your shoulder feels better soon. Knitting related injuries are the worst! Last year I had to take a break from knitting due to hand pain I developed after furiously knitting a shawl. I did a little research and was surprised to learn what a toll knitting can take on the body–who would have thought?

I love, love, love your Bulle–everything about it: the pattern, the yarn you chose, the color–and wish that I could make one for my daughters (who are both in junior sizes now) . If only I understood math well enough to adjust patterns to fit different sizes! But, no matter how hard I try I can’t get it right. I made a huge mistake calculating the amount of yarn I needed for the Tea Leaves cardi I’ve been knitting. (I still can’t figure out how it happened.) I think I’m going to have to set it aside and begin something else, since I’ve only got enough yarn to finish one sleeve!

A couple of winters ago I read a book that left me depressed for months. Since then (on the advice of my mother) I’ve been consciously trying to choose uplifting stories :- )

Love the colour of your sweater…like raspberries with cream! Delicious. Glass Castle is a tale of such resilience…amazing what children can survive and that they can thrive in adulthood. Heartbreaking, too.

I have never knit with Madeline Tosh. I kind of feel like I would have a hard time justifying the cost to my husband as to why a young girl’s sweater would cost so much. But it’s so beautiful! And the color you chose is so perfect for fall/winter. I am about to start a Bulle for my own daughter soon! I can’t wait!

Hello Ginny, Larkspurs Bulle is looking lovely, I love the yarn you are using, Hope your shoulder is feeling better soon, must be very frustrating for you! I really enjoy reading your blog because your lifestyle is quite different to my own ( I only have 3 children! 🙂 ), but I see similarities in the joy you take in the simple things in life like family, nature, crafting and gardening. I like the glimpses you give into your world through your beautiful photos, and I don’t feel you are presenting yourself and your family as ‘a perfect family’. We are all just doing our best to live life the best way we can, and that is different for us all, so thank you for sharing! Have a lovely day, Julie x

I have arthritis in my hands (and feet. and, now, knees.), and these days I can almost always trace a flare-up to some stretch of mad knitting that I’m sure contributed. It’s hard, isn’t it, getting used to not being able to do just what we want to do with impunity, because our bodies start to protest as we get older??
I’ll be back a little later on with my own link; I forgot to take a photo before the sun went down yesterday & so I have to wait a bit for some good light in my dark house! xo
