Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

Yarn Along

My little baby cardigan is a bit messy right now.  I am very close to finishing (and actually, will most likely be finished with it by the time this post goes up in the morning!)  I started worrying about running out of yarn, so I have my second sleeve going from the inside of what’s left of my yarn, and the edge is going from the outside of the ball.  I think everything is going to work out.  What a sweet little knit this is!  I also finished the shawl that I’ve been working on for the past month or so and the good news is that the friend that I knit it for loves it, and she’s not allergic to wool!

I started reading Gaia’s Garden this week.  I am very, very excited about this book and am eager to learn more ways to incorporate more ecologically sound gardening practices on our little homestead.  Surely the answer to our ten year battle with wiregrass is somewhere in these pages….

(2) Include a link back to this post in your blog post or on your flickr photo page so that others who may want to join the Yarn Along can find us!
(3) If you have any trouble linking up, just email me and I will help you!

The thought of running short on yarn for a project is simply not a good one. Hope you have enough! Thanks so much for hosting. 🙂 Sharing a finished project — yes!!

You pick the best colors. I was a Walmart today and picked a periwinkle blue which is my favorite, but was a skein short, so I picked a lavender . I like working with cotton because wool makes me so itchy, but the wool yarns are so beautiful.

Just in case you want to knit a shawl for another friend I would like to officially throw my hat in the ring and confirm that I am NOT allergic to wool. I would like to follow that up with the fact that I LOVE anything you knit because you have great taste in yarn. So don’t feel boxed in with just a shawl. I am open!!

If it does have any ideas for wire grass, Ginny, I hope you will let us know. I’ve researched over the years, but the only method that seemed to guarantee success had about 16 steps to it, including plowing and chemicals. So we just try to keep it out of the kitchen garden. We are surrounded by hayfields and they are full of it. And then there is the tree version of wire grass in the ailanthus trees. : (

We’ve been working with a master gardner friend who is helping us make consistent harvests with an ongoing crop rotation. It’s amazing what two raised beds can bring forth – and to think for two prior years we’ve had that mega day with 72 crowns of broccoli (ha!). That book looks great and I’ll have to see if our library has it. Love that shade of pink; looking forward to seeing it off the needles.

Great idea, to use the inside on the other sleeve. My project right now has me concerned about running out. I may put a ruffle around the edge in a green or blue it will match and give me a bit more length.

I am so glad for the book recommendation; we will be starting up our garden in our new yard in the spring—well, really in the fall, as we prepare the space for spring planting. Based on the description, I think that might be a very good resource for us… xo

Did you finish the Duggars second book? Your cardigan looks beautiful! It is really coming along. I love the color-so deep and vibrant. How did you manage to knit that cardigan so fast? My husband would say: Wiregrass is hard to kill. Reminds me alot of hostas, in that way. Round-up would work but not sure you would like to treat it chemically. Maybe digging it up and laying down some grass seed?
