~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
I totally caved. Thinking about a friend who has a baby due in a couple of months, I felt that it was an emergency that I knit something for her. Nevermind the stark contrast between the fingering weight shawl and a worsted weight cardigan for a newborn. I am closer to finishing the shawl. Sixteen rows to go I believe, and truly I do love that pattern (and am a little sad that the shawl is actually not for me!) Saturday I had an hour or two to spare and I found this cute pattern, the baby vertebrae. I remembered a bare skein of yarn that Genevieve gave me with an order…and the next thing I knew I was dyeing it a nice raspberry pink. Now that I’ve got this cute little cardigan started, I think I can go back to the shawl and finish it up.
I picked up a book about the Duggar family at the library this week and just finished reading it. I’ve never seen their television show before and this is the first I’ve read about them. I really enjoyed reading about their family and the way they do things. I think I’ll read their new book as well.

The raspberry pink yarn is really yummy and the Vertebrae is an interesting construction….as for the Duggars, I admire their choices but I don’t share them all and I don’t watch tv. I think your family is lovely the way it is! You do not need a TV show(I don’t watch TV eh, eh)
Hey!
Just discovered your blog – I really like it! And I joined in for the yarn along!
Have a great rest of the week.
K
wow, that color, wow!!!
Never heared of the Duggar family, I will check them out, they sound fun 🙂
I love the pink color!
The Duggars are doing it right! It is because the mom and dad love each other and God of course. It is because they are on the same page and they acknowledge the individualness of each child. They aren’t too strict and not too loose. I do think they go a little too far with the bathing suits though but if that’s their only fault we sure could use a lot more families like them and yours!
What a fun color! I can’t wait to see the finished sweater:)
Love the color!
my first join-in! Thanks for inspiring us. gotta go sew for awhile, but the book and yarn will be waiting for me. Your book and project look good! not enough time in life to do all this good stuff!
What an amazing color! I love that you’re making a gift with yarn you dyed yourself – what a wonderful thought.
I LOVE that raspberry color! Great dye job, friend!
Like the colour 🙂
What a beautiful color! I’ve seen that pattern and think it’s brilliant for a new baby.
I have enjoyed their show on occasion. That yarn is very pretty. Emergency knitting is very important.
I love the Duggars. They are such a great family. I will have to put that one on my list.
Hi Ginny-I love the colors too in the cardi, and agree baby knitting is wonderfully gratifying! I too loved reading about the Duggars, and I enjoyed both books. Thank you for hosting yarn along-it always gives me motivation to keep working on things!
Blessings
Erin
That’s some kind of pink — and I feel the same way, like it’s an emergency when a babe is near. I would love to read that book – their story fascinates me.
Maybe the baby cardigan will help you come back to the shawl with more motivation! I wouldn’t have thought to pick up a book by the Duggars, but maybe I’ll have to give it a try–fascinating for sure!
Beautiful color of yarn! I’ve read both of their books and really enjoyed them. The second book is even better, I think.
I openly admit that I love and admire the Duggars (even though it receives criticism quite often from friends, family and others). I read that book and am currently reading their new one. I occasionally watch their show on Youtube since we don’t have a tv ( you can see all the seasons on their) and always feel inspired to be a better parent afterwards. Their daughters are writing a book and I am really looking forward to reading that one.
Oh I could go on and on!!!! XO
Pretty pink yarn! Pink is one of my favorite colors. I’ve watched the Duggars many times. They’re fascinating.
Newborn knitting is so much fun…it’s no wonder it got bumped to the top of the queue. 😉 The Duggars do have quite a story, don’t they.
Thank you for sharing about the Duggar book – I have considered reading it, but was thinking it may be too mainstream . Now I think I may try to find it at the library.
Thanks!
can’t blame you – newborn knitting is the best! and the color is perfect for a wee girl 🙂
Such a gorgeous colour! Jacinta
I love the raspberry pink…what a great follow-up to the watermelon colours you spoke of a few weeks back.
Such a vibrant pink yarn; surely it will make a sweet baby cardi. My current projects are a baby bonnet that’s almost finished and a poncho for me. Thanks for hosting, Ginny!
I linked up! I love that Duggar book. I love the Duggars in general – such a genuine family and such a beautiful witness to the sanctity of all life.
What a lovely color, baby items are so much fun to make, almost instant gratification.
baby clothing is so fun to make. What a lovely color, what did you use to dye the yarn with?
Such a lovely colour!
Oh, I do love the color of your yarn…you did a lovely job!
That yarn color is fantabulous. Your friend is very lucky; she will love her shawl!
What a gorgeous shade of pink! I am knitting a dress for my daughter right now…dk weight cotton on size 2 needles! I am thinking I need to add a faster knit just to help me not get discouraged, ha ha. I am not sure why, but it is always hard for me when I knit and knit and knit and see very little progress.
Ooh – the raspberry pink is gorgeous!
This week I’m sharing an update on my year-round afghan project. It’s June and I’m amazing myself by being halfway through!
Lovely yarn color! I am sure that the gift will be just perfect and cherished by those who wear it. Before we cut the cord with cable, I used to watch the Duggars. Although our beliefs differ, I admire their strong faith and conviction to be active parents. Happy Knitting!
Yes, baby items are so much fun. I like the pattern you chose.
It’s been a while since I stopped by…I too am knitting a baby item for a friend, while growing OUR fourth child. The Duggars give me perspective when I worry about raising a family of four children!
uh-oh, another amazing Kelly Brooker baby pattern – my knitting bag is overflowing with puerperiums (puerperia?) for my next bubs already, but I’ll HAVE to find space for one of these!
I love squeezing in a little baby knit when other projects are slow going. Lovely colour!
I’ve been so close to ordering that book for so long. I think I’ll just have to take the plunge now 🙂
I can definitely appreciate the speed of a baby knit and the need to knit it right now! (I also know how quickly worsted knits versus fingering – ahem). I too am almost done with my shawl. I feel a sudden obsession with knitting it every spare moment I have.
I love the Duggars. I find some of their beliefs hard to get around (no dancing, “wine” in the Bible is really grape juice), but I so admire the way they raise their children, and you can see that their kids are different from other kids – kinder, more patient, more controlled, especially the littlest ones. Now that the show has been on a while they’re a lot wealthier and so they’ve sort of lost the urgency of the money issue, but the first couple seasons I think was very authentic (it’s still a good show, though I haven’t watched this season).
I love the Duggar books– the recipes mentioned in their books are very good as well. We made the baked oatmeal and it was a a big hit in our house. I love that color–so bright. The vertebrae will look great knitted up–I am so hesitant to start that pattern, picking up stitches is my downfall.
ooo, I do like that color of yarn! how did you dye it?
Hi Mary! I used these dyes: http://www.knitpicks.com/cfaccessories/accessory_display.cfm?ID=80875 and used a mixture of the flame red and the river blue.
Thats a great raspberry pink, it is going to make for a cute cardigan.
P.S. Thanks so much for hosting us and getting us all together.
Hey Ginny, what a lucky friend, I look forward to seeing the little cardi.
It seems like you’ve become a dab-hand with the dyeing : ) that raspberry yarn is simply delicious! Happy stitching x
The colour looks absolutely yummy! In fact your and my knitting look a bit alike this week (if I would have been able to capture the colour as it really looks like…) =)
Do baby knits really count, they are so tiny? 🙂 I think you could finish it in no time and then finish your shawl. The raspberry pink is a great looking color Ginny.
That pink will make such a pretty cardigan for a wee one. 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the book. I’ve seen the show a few times, but it reminds me too much of my strict fundamentalist background to enjoy seeing or reading about them.
