Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

Yarn Along

I totally caved.  Thinking about a friend who has a baby due in a couple of months, I felt that it was an emergency that I knit something for her.  Nevermind the stark contrast between the fingering weight shawl and a worsted weight cardigan for a newborn.  I am closer to finishing the shawl.  Sixteen rows to go I believe, and truly I do love that pattern (and am a little sad that the shawl is actually not for me!)  Saturday I had an hour or two to spare and I found this cute pattern, the baby vertebrae.  I remembered a bare skein of yarn that Genevieve gave me with an order…and the next thing I knew I was dyeing it a nice raspberry pink.  Now that I’ve got this cute little cardigan started, I think I can go back to the shawl and finish it up.

I picked up a book about the Duggar family at the library this week and just finished reading it.  I’ve never seen their television show before and this is the first I’ve read about them.  I really enjoyed reading about their family and the way they do things. I think I’ll read their new book as well.

The raspberry pink yarn is really yummy and the Vertebrae is an interesting construction….as for the Duggars, I admire their choices but I don’t share them all and I don’t watch tv. I think your family is lovely the way it is! You do not need a TV show(I don’t watch TV eh, eh)

The Duggars are doing it right! It is because the mom and dad love each other and God of course. It is because they are on the same page and they acknowledge the individualness of each child. They aren’t too strict and not too loose. I do think they go a little too far with the bathing suits though but if that’s their only fault we sure could use a lot more families like them and yours!

That’s some kind of pink — and I feel the same way, like it’s an emergency when a babe is near. I would love to read that book – their story fascinates me.

Maybe the baby cardigan will help you come back to the shawl with more motivation! I wouldn’t have thought to pick up a book by the Duggars, but maybe I’ll have to give it a try–fascinating for sure!

I openly admit that I love and admire the Duggars (even though it receives criticism quite often from friends, family and others). I read that book and am currently reading their new one. I occasionally watch their show on Youtube since we don’t have a tv ( you can see all the seasons on their) and always feel inspired to be a better parent afterwards. Their daughters are writing a book and I am really looking forward to reading that one.
Oh I could go on and on!!!! XO

What a gorgeous shade of pink! I am knitting a dress for my daughter right now…dk weight cotton on size 2 needles! I am thinking I need to add a faster knit just to help me not get discouraged, ha ha. I am not sure why, but it is always hard for me when I knit and knit and knit and see very little progress.

I can definitely appreciate the speed of a baby knit and the need to knit it right now! (I also know how quickly worsted knits versus fingering – ahem). I too am almost done with my shawl. I feel a sudden obsession with knitting it every spare moment I have.

I love the Duggars. I find some of their beliefs hard to get around (no dancing, “wine” in the Bible is really grape juice), but I so admire the way they raise their children, and you can see that their kids are different from other kids – kinder, more patient, more controlled, especially the littlest ones. Now that the show has been on a while they’re a lot wealthier and so they’ve sort of lost the urgency of the money issue, but the first couple seasons I think was very authentic (it’s still a good show, though I haven’t watched this season).

I love the Duggar books– the recipes mentioned in their books are very good as well. We made the baked oatmeal and it was a a big hit in our house. I love that color–so bright. The vertebrae will look great knitted up–I am so hesitant to start that pattern, picking up stitches is my downfall.
