~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

Having finished my scarf a couple of days ago, I actually only have one project on the needles now. (That’s not going to last!) I am working on a pretty little shawl for a gift. I really like this pattern, the Oaklet Shawl, because it stays simple until you reach the border at the end. That makes it a good project for me to work on during the day here and there, especially while my boys read to me. When I reach the border, I will have to start working on it after my kids are in bed. The yarn is Springtree Road’s Julep, which I chose for the color because I think it is perfect for my intended recipient (this yarn is also just plain nice to work with.)
After seeing Tonya’s last Yarn Along post, I requested This Life is in Your Hands from my library. It’s an autobiography written by Eliot Coleman’s daughter Melissa. Her family’s story is interesting to me on many levels, especially because I have read one of Eliot Coleman’s books on organic growing.

Thank you for being our Yarn Along space!
I look forward to it every week. When I miss it I feel a bit sad about it but I know I can jump back in the next week.
Blessings,

Your yarn is a luscious color! I’m going to peek at your pattern. It sounds very pretty with a decorative border to offset the stockinette.
🙂
Just wanted to say “Thank You”! I enjoy Yarn Along so much. It has inspired me to finish knitting projects, added tons of favorites to my Revelry list, my books to read list is growing by several a week, and knitters are such neat people.
Thanks for hosting, as always! Just coming to your blog has a calming effect on me. 🙂 Have a great week!
It looks like you’re a really big fan of springtree road’s yarn. (I think I’ve seen a few projects recently in their yarn) What is it that draws you to using their yarn? ::curious::
This is actually only my second project using Springtree Road yarn. I think Maya creates the most beautiful colorways!
I love the shawl pattern and yarn you chose! I can SO relate to doing more complicated knitting until after the kids are in bed. Only one project on the needles is impressive, IMHO. 😉 I have um, like…. 4 at least right now? *blush* And, I just added the pattern you mentioned in your post to my Ravelry queue. 😀
Have a great day!

Ginny,
I am looking forward to what you think about the book – it has really made me think about what our family’s mission/life is supposed to look like to us and are we actually living that life or has it changed as our income has gone up again (although I think we are still around the poverty level for a family of 9 according to the government).
Thank you so much for doing this each week.
Blessings, Tonya
Beautiful yarn! That shawl will be gorgeous. 🙂
Love the colour of your yarn Ginny and thanks for the shawl link; it is lovely! The book looks interesting – will have to see if my library has it. Have a great day!
I really, really, really, love that yarn you are working with. I can’t wait to see your project when it’s finished. This Life Is In Your Hands, sounds really interesting. I’m not familiar at all with the Colemans. I’ll have to follow your links and look them up 🙂
Love the yarn color! Thank you again for hosting! I love seeing what people are reading and knitting!
Lovely shawl. I’m reading Dissolution by C J Sansom – so far so good
The scarf turned out beautiful ! And this shawl looks lovely as well. I love the color. I just got Heathens from interlibrary loan, it looks like a promising read and now I’ll have to add this latest one you are reading to my list, it has a similar flavor, yes. Have a good week!
For some reason the linky is not working for me today 🙁 Oh well- that is the reason I cannot come and comment on anyone’s blog! Or even leave mine in a linky link.
Here it is if you are interested!

Rachel, I added your link!
Beautiful! I love the colour!
love that pattern, what a sweet gift, one i would treasure.
What beautiful yarn! It’s one of my most favorite colors.
Every Wednesday you inspire me to get back into the groove of reading. Last year I read only two books from cover to cover. Yes, just two. I used to swallow them up, page after page, but these days when I finally get into bed I can only manage a sentence before my eyes shut. Know, however, that each week I read your Yarn Along post, you encourage me again to challenge myself to decrease my evening knitting time, even just by 10 minutes, to allow the possibility of making it to the end of the first page! So, thank you!
I love looking through all these entries, I’ve added several books to my library holds list!
I loved your scarf. You look so beautiful and rested, Ginny, for someone I suspect is constantly moving and doesn’t sleep enough! Interesting book! I will look for it.
I have a shawl on the go too. That is a beautiful colour. I keep seeing this book and wondering. I like Elliot COleman’s gardening inforamtion, but wonder if their would be things I wouldn’t want to know in this book.
I am off to follow you on twitter now, to catch up with your posts.
xx
This Life is in your Hands affected me on such a deep level. Inspiring and heart-wrenching, both. Such a good book. Beautiful yarn!
love that color of yarn!!
That book sounds so great. I love Eliot Coleman’s book and his wife, Barbara Damrosch (The Garden Primer). they are both amazing inspirational people. It would be super cool to get a glimpse into their lives further (although that sounds weird doesn’t it?!). I will have to read that book too!
:)Lisa
I think I have to put that shawl on my queue as well as the memoir you’re reading.
Had seen this book around for quite awhile, but did not realize until seeing Tonya’s post that it was by Eliot Coleman’s daughter. Have shied away from it so far, because I often find memoirs depressing; will be interested in hearing your thoughts on the book!
That is a beautiful shawl – and the yarn is lovely too!
Is anyone else unable to see the linky? I have been trying all morning and I just cannot see it or get it to appear 🙁
I have wanted to make that shawl. Just not sure who I would give it to. The yarn is such a lovely color. I really enjoy your blog. Your photography is so beautiful.
The yarn looks lovely! 🙂
I really like that photo. So nice!
I really like the photo! So nice!
Love that color!
I love your shawls! I’ve been thinking of making one of my own for awhile, but I just haven’t gotten around to doing it. Come over and check out my blue Pebble! http://08melissab.blogspot.com/2012/02/wip-wednesday_29.html
Your scarfs are lovely! I love to make scarves too, only I am a crocheter:)
Thanks for hosting the party!
That is a beautiful color, Ginny. When I am big I want a house built with red bricks… The book description on Amazon grabbed me, I am going to try to get it too. Thank you for hosting!
The picture is great, such lovely colours!
I’m all for simple projects these days. Your shawl color looks great. It matches the bricks so well.
Ah that shawl is lovely. I never heard of that book. It does sound interesting and inspiring-onto my book list it goes!
hey there, i’m sorry i linked with wrong address first. if possible, could you remove my first link (no. 4)??? sorry for the inconvenience…..
Thank you for the link to this book, I had no idea this happened and I really admire Eliot Coleman.
I have yet to ever make a shawl, but it is one my to do list.. one day. Maybe this would work, I am slightly intimidated. I always enjoy Yarn Along, thank you for hosting it!!
The seashell scarf is gorgeous. I favorited it right away on Ravelry but who knows if I’ll get around to making it. I love the coral color of the shawl. I’m sure it will be adored!
I love that color, that looks like it’s going to be really pretty:)
That is beautiful! I am knitting something similar, simple until the last little bit. It’s rather refreshing.
What a pretty color and such a pretty pattern. I have that one on in my Ravelry library already. Too many patterns, too little time.
Ginny, your post yesterday about ‘just going in for one item’ and all the distractions was so funny. You could have been talking about me. World Market ended up closing near our home – boo! (but good in other ways).
Ginny the colour of the yarn is BEAUTIFUL, so is the picture in itself and of course the knitting! Stunning!
The shawl looks lovely, and in such a beautiful warm color. The book really sounds like a wonderful read, as we’re big fans of Eliot Coleman also.
We really enjoy all the yarn-along posts. Thank you for sharing them.
Thanks for hosting yarn along, the shawl is very pretty!!
Ginny, I wanted to link up my sister’s post and had the wrong post in there. Sorry!!
Is there a way for you to delete #4?
I love the shawl you’re working on, how beautiful it looks especially with the background you picked to bring out the color!
What a beautiful colour, and how lovely that photograph of your knitting against the brick work.
Thank you for the yarn link Ginny, it looks so pretty and in a color I love.
I bookmarked the same book after seeing it last week, sadly my library doesn’t carry it so I will have to buy a copy.
