Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
Yarn Along

Having finished my scarf a couple of days ago, I actually only have one project on the needles now. (That’s not going to last!)  I am working on a pretty little shawl for a gift.  I really like this pattern, the Oaklet Shawl, because it stays simple until you reach the border at the end.  That makes it a good project for me to work on during the day here and there, especially while my boys read to me.  When I reach the border, I will have to start working on it after my kids are in bed.  The yarn is Springtree Road’s Julep, which I chose for the color because I think it is perfect for my intended recipient (this yarn is also just plain nice to work with.)

After seeing Tonya’s last Yarn Along post, I requested This Life is in Your Hands from my library.  It’s an autobiography written by Eliot Coleman’s daughter Melissa.  Her family’s story is interesting to me on many levels, especially because I have read one of Eliot Coleman’s books on organic growing.

Thank you for being our Yarn Along space!
I look forward to it every week. When I miss it I feel a bit sad about it but I know I can jump back in the next week.

Your yarn is a luscious color! I’m going to peek at your pattern. It sounds very pretty with a decorative border to offset the stockinette.

Just wanted to say “Thank You”! I enjoy Yarn Along so much. It has inspired me to finish knitting projects, added tons of favorites to my Revelry list, my books to read list is growing by several a week, and knitters are such neat people.

It looks like you’re a really big fan of springtree road’s yarn. (I think I’ve seen a few projects recently in their yarn) What is it that draws you to using their yarn? ::curious::

This is actually only my second project using Springtree Road yarn. I think Maya creates the most beautiful colorways!

I love the shawl pattern and yarn you chose! I can SO relate to doing more complicated knitting until after the kids are in bed. Only one project on the needles is impressive, IMHO. 😉 I have um, like…. 4 at least right now? *blush* And, I just added the pattern you mentioned in your post to my Ravelry queue. 😀
    Have a great day!

    Ginny,
I am looking forward to what you think about the book – it has really made me think about what our family’s mission/life is supposed to look like to us and are we actually living that life or has it changed as our income has gone up again (although I think we are still around the poverty level for a family of 9 according to the government).
Thank you so much for doing this each week.
    Blessings, Tonya

Every Wednesday you inspire me to get back into the groove of reading. Last year I read only two books from cover to cover. Yes, just two. I used to swallow them up, page after page, but these days when I finally get into bed I can only manage a sentence before my eyes shut. Know, however, that each week I read your Yarn Along post, you encourage me again to challenge myself to decrease my evening knitting time, even just by 10 minutes, to allow the possibility of making it to the end of the first page! So, thank you!

That book sounds so great. I love Eliot Coleman’s book and his wife, Barbara Damrosch (The Garden Primer). they are both amazing inspirational people. It would be super cool to get a glimpse into their lives further (although that sounds weird doesn’t it?!). I will have to read that book too!

Had seen this book around for quite awhile, but did not realize until seeing Tonya’s post that it was by Eliot Coleman’s daughter. Have shied away from it so far, because I often find memoirs depressing; will be interested in hearing your thoughts on the book!
