Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

Yarn Along

A gorgeous skein of cashmere yarn has been sitting on my shelf since just before Christmas, just waiting for the time to be right.  February in Virginia?  Sunny marmalade colored yarn?  Perfect!  I am knitting up a quick and lacy cowl and enjoying every stitch.

Reading….(for those of you who are Little House fans) I did go on to read The First Four Years.  Honestly, I was feeling a little weird by the time I got to the end of These Happy Golden Years, but having The First Four Years in my possession, I felt compelled to read it too.  I remember having these amazing insightful thoughts about my feelings regarding these books, but alas, I’ve forgotten them.  At any rate, I don’t believe I will be rereading those two books, and I may have to change my mind about which of the Little House books is my favorite.  My book club is reading a short story collection, Family Happiness, by Tolstoy.  I read the title story, but couldn’t go on, for no other reason than the fact that Tolstoy and I aren’t currently a good match apparently. (I’ve not read any of his other more famous books.)

I did get really excited about a children’s picture book called Extra Yarn this week.  I’ve been eagerly awaiting it’s release for some time and love it so much that I even carried it with me last week so that I could read it to my little knitting students.  Any children’s book about knitting is worth owning I do believe.  This one has great illustrations and the story is cute as well.  It’s been a big hit at my house.

Oh that yarn is just delightful. Perfect for a warm sunny lift in the winter. I would encourage you to give Tolstoy another chance–some of his short stories are so wonderful–“Where Love is, God is”, is a good one to start with.

    Hi Ginny,
First time posting for Yarn Along. What an awesome idea, yarn and books. I’m not a knitter but a crocheter. I love the color of yarn you using, pretty. That book looks interesting, I’ll have to check my library to see if they have it. Have a great day!

What a lovely shade of yellow, perfect colour to warm things up a bit. I will have to revisit the Little House series again soon, haven’t read them in a long time.

I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy the last two Little House books as much as you remembered. I never liked The First Four Years as much because the voice was so different from the rest of the books (IIRC the manuscript was found in Rose’s belongings after her death & was published as written).

Oh, that yellow yarn is so pretty! The daffodils are blooming here in Memphis, early of course with this crazy winter weather we’ve had. So strange. I can’t imagine being anything other then happy when holding and knitting this yarn!

What a cute book. I am always on the hunt for such books.

Have you read “Shall I Knit You a Hat?” to your littles? It’s technically a Christmas story, but it works well for wintertime in general. Lots of animals get hats shaped to their unique heads thanks to the work of a mama and boy bunny. It’s a pleasure.

Such a happy colour. And good on you for going with your colour inspiration, regardless of the season. Besides, who knows what seasonal norms are anymore anyway? Certainly not the weather itself.

The color of that cashmere is so lovely and cheery. And it matches your book so nicely! 🙂 I just started reading By The Shores of Silver Lake this week to the kids. I’d forgotten that it starts with Mary’s blindness and Jack’s death. The kids have been so sad reading it so far. I hope it picks up, but I really can’t remember.

The yarn is a lovely cheerful sunshine colour perfect for February…I’m not usually a yellow person…more blues and greens but as I get older I’m drawn so much to the colour.

I love the Little Prarie books and am positive that my pipe dream of a log cabin was inspired by the pages…
