~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
A gorgeous skein of cashmere yarn has been sitting on my shelf since just before Christmas, just waiting for the time to be right. February in Virginia? Sunny marmalade colored yarn? Perfect! I am knitting up a quick and lacy cowl and enjoying every stitch.
Reading….(for those of you who are Little House fans) I did go on to read The First Four Years. Honestly, I was feeling a little weird by the time I got to the end of These Happy Golden Years, but having The First Four Years in my possession, I felt compelled to read it too. I remember having these amazing insightful thoughts about my feelings regarding these books, but alas, I’ve forgotten them. At any rate, I don’t believe I will be rereading those two books, and I may have to change my mind about which of the Little House books is my favorite. My book club is reading a short story collection, Family Happiness, by Tolstoy. I read the title story, but couldn’t go on, for no other reason than the fact that Tolstoy and I aren’t currently a good match apparently. (I’ve not read any of his other more famous books.)
I did get really excited about a children’s picture book called Extra Yarn this week. I’ve been eagerly awaiting it’s release for some time and love it so much that I even carried it with me last week so that I could read it to my little knitting students. Any children’s book about knitting is worth owning I do believe. This one has great illustrations and the story is cute as well. It’s been a big hit at my house.

Oh that yarn is just delightful. Perfect for a warm sunny lift in the winter. I would encourage you to give Tolstoy another chance–some of his short stories are so wonderful–“Where Love is, God is”, is a good one to start with.
I am back…and wouldn’t you know I made the same mistake linking up….I linked up to my blog and not just the yarn along post…sorry about that. Next time I will try and get it right!
Your projects are always so beautiful, next week I am making something for myself….something I never do there is always someone else who needs or wants something… but next week they can wait!!!
Thanks for Yarn along, so inspirational, I have joined in for the past 2 weeks, good to be apart of the group
Hi Ginny,
First time posting for Yarn Along. What an awesome idea, yarn and books. I’m not a knitter but a crocheter. I love the color of yarn you using, pretty. That book looks interesting, I’ll have to check my library to see if they have it. Have a great day!

Food for Thought
What a fun book! And I love the color of that cowl! Marmalade is a favorite of mine…
trying my hand at Tunisian crochet. Though now I really want that pretty yellow yarn that you are using.
Thank you for sharing about that children’s book!
Love the lemon-y color of that yarn. Perfect for this time of year.
That yarn is like a little bit of sunshine this time of year. I really need to pick up Extra Yarn. I keep hearing about it.
Looks like a neat book for those little bits of yarn lying around. Funny – I’m knitting a yellowish cowl this week, too!
Beautiful color – nice and cheery for February.
I remember loving all of the Little House books when I was in grade school. One of these I need to read them again 😉
Perfectly sunny and gorgeous…pretty yarn! I feel the same about the Little House Series. I can’t wait to see the finished product.
XO, Jules
That color is so rich, sunny and warm-love it. The cowl looks beautiful too. I just saw that book on Lori times Five. I will have to get it for my little ones. Have you decided on your new favorite Little House book?
xo
First time joining in.
What a lovely shade of yellow, perfect colour to warm things up a bit. I will have to revisit the Little House series again soon, haven’t read them in a long time.
Have a great day!
Beautiful! I’ve been contemplating making myself a cowl or shawl for awhile but I just haven’t. I really really want to knit my 2 yo a pebble vest next. I just adore them. =] Have a happy Wednesday!
I love the color of the yarn. Wonderful for this time of year! I’m going to check out Extra Yarn. My little one would love a book about knitting!
Oh my goodness, that yarn is so beautiful! Bright and cheery and…perfect.
I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy the last two Little House books as much as you remembered. I never liked The First Four Years as much because the voice was so different from the rest of the books (IIRC the manuscript was found in Rose’s belongings after her death & was published as written).
Beautiful work! Love the lace in it and the color!
Oh, that yellow yarn is so pretty! The daffodils are blooming here in Memphis, early of course with this crazy winter weather we’ve had. So strange. I can’t imagine being anything other then happy when holding and knitting this yarn!
What a cute book. I am always on the hunt for such books.
The lacy pattern looks wonderful. What a great project for that delicious looking yarn.
Thanks for sharing and hosting.
Beautiful as always! One of these days I’ll finally learn how to follow a pattern so that I may to make something as lovely as you. Someday…
The cowl looks great. Very cheery, indeed…like a burst of bright sunshine or a slice of cheddar cheese. Sharp cheddar that is.
I keep seeing mention of this book – I must put it on my amazon wishlist!
I LOVE the color of your yarn. A piece of sunshine.
Yes, that yarn is definitely a happy ray of sun shine for the weather in these parts this week!
Have you read “Shall I Knit You a Hat?” to your littles? It’s technically a Christmas story, but it works well for wintertime in general. Lots of animals get hats shaped to their unique heads thanks to the work of a mama and boy bunny. It’s a pleasure.
I love that colour. And it matches the book 🙂 x
Such a happy colour. And good on you for going with your colour inspiration, regardless of the season. Besides, who knows what seasonal norms are anymore anyway? Certainly not the weather itself.
Blessings
that color screams, “Summer is coming! Summer is coming!” Love it!
🙂

Beautiful, beautiful yarn… I LOVE the color. The colors you pick are always simply gorgeous!
That book has been popping up everywhere I look. I need a copy!
Thanks for hosting Yarn Along- each week it brings me joy to share what I am reading and knitting with others!
The color of that cashmere is so lovely and cheery. And it matches your book so nicely! 🙂 I just started reading By The Shores of Silver Lake this week to the kids. I’d forgotten that it starts with Mary’s blindness and Jack’s death. The kids have been so sad reading it so far. I hope it picks up, but I really can’t remember.
beautiful yellow yarn! – I used most of my stash for a Christmas blanket I crocheted for my sister so now I have enough place for new yarn – definitely going to buy some yellow! 🙂
Wow, the colour of that yarn is beautiful – I’ve got a thing about a sunny yellow these days, I definitely need more of it in my life!
Beautiful and sunny!
Please share with us where that yellow is from! We’re all in love with it! lol
The cashmere is beautiful! Extra Yarn looks like a cute book- I’m going to have to find a copy of that one!
that cashmere is gorgeous … I’m doing “These Happy Golden Years” with my girls’ group … I’ll let you know what the 9-12 crowd thinks of it!
I’ve seen the book before and think I have to get one! so sweet!
love that yellow 🙂
That is a wonderful sunny yellow! We finally have some feeble rays of sunshine during this immense cold that has Germany (and Europe) in its grip. I long for warm and friendly colours so your cowl is exactly what I needed to see today =)
I just read about the book at loritimesfive two days ago and I’m so curious about it.
Can’t believe you’re casting on something new almost every week!
Wow that is a beautiful colour of yellow! Very sunny!
Love that yarn color – so cheery!
We are reading the Little House series right now. I just finished reading aloud Little House on the Prairie. I never read any farther as a little girl, so glad to hear you enjoyed the later ones. The yarn is just beautiful!
The yarn is a lovely cheerful sunshine colour perfect for February…I’m not usually a yellow person…more blues and greens but as I get older I’m drawn so much to the colour.
I love the Little Prarie books and am positive that my pipe dream of a log cabin was inspired by the pages…
beautiful sunny colour~!
What lovely yarn! I have been wanting to knit with cashmere, I never have before, so I am drooling over yours!
I LOVE the color of your yarn! It is so bright and happy 🙂 A cowl will be the perfect knit.
