We celebrated Elsie’s first birthday last month! My hope was to knit her a birthday sweater: a Granny’s Favourite.

According to my plan, my daughter-in-law, Phoebe, chose the yarn at the fiber festival just a couple of weeks before Elsie’s birthday. I knew I would have to knit faster than I have been the last few years!

With the help of a long car trip, I managed to finish in time!

We visited family (including my baby sister, Angie!) in Georgia and I knit all the way there and all the way back.

When we arrived home I had about a week left to knit the sleeves, which was entirely manageable.

Phoebe sewed Elsie a birthday dress to match a dress that Josie (Phoebe’s sister) sewed for herself recently. I think Elsie looks a lot like her Aunt Josie and they were so cute in their matching dresses!

Ambrose just has to touch her. 🙂

Isn’t that a proper reaction to a hand knit sweater! She’s so sweet and dear.

Happy Birthday, Elsie! We all love you so, so much!
There’s something so perfect and dear about a baby in hand knits. You did a beautiful job! She is so cute and that green is lovely on her.
You are so blessed, Ginny, thank you for your witness to life and love!
May peace be with you!
Really, such a beautiful baby sweater! Elsie doesn’t know what a Great grandma she has! (But she will!)
I can’t believe you’re a grandma!
Happy Birthday little Elsie 🙂 What a precious little girl !! The little cardigan is so pretty, I love that shade of green. Blessings to you all ~ Linda
Hello Ginny,
Another beautiful sweater I must knit. I’ve knit ever sweater you’ve had on your needles they are beautiful. I do have a question on the Puddle Duck Sweater.
When the purl round is completely after the sleeves are put on salvage thread. Steps 1 through 7 are completed. It states continue as pattern established. Does that mean I through 7 until number of stitiches are completed. I wasan’t sure if I do the established pattern as 3 through 7 or the 1 through 7.
Thank you for any help you offer and happy birthday to the Elise what a gorgeous sweater. Oh, the dress I’m assuming her mom has on with all the buttons in front is there a pattern?
What beautiful photos, as always! Happy birthday to your sweet granddaughter! I am drawn to the dress Phoebe is wearing. It is beautifully simple. Is there a pattern available? Or does she make dresses and sell them?
I love your blog entries. The pictures, the way you describe your life, and yes, even each relatable disaster. You have a lovely family. Thank you for sharing with us.
She’s an adorable toddler now and so pretty in her beautiful sweater. You are all blessed. Thank you for sharing her milestone with us. God bless you all.
This post restores my faith in humanity.. so, so special. Love this sweater – the color and style and the fact that it is made with love. Thank you for sharing.. what a lovely post!
What a precious granddaughter, and the cardigan you knit for her is perfect! Your tale of Phoebe making a matching dress for Elsie for the party brought back a fond memory, as I made matching outfits for our daughter and me in 1975 for her first birthday! I love hearing your stories, Ginny.
Oh my gosh, this couldn’t be any sweeter. I can’t believe her cute little reaction to seeing the sweater! Also the sweater is the prettiest color! I do love that pattern.
The way she was looking at her sweater!!! Already knit worthy at a year old! What a cutie.
oooohhhh – I think I have that exact same pattern on a WIP from….um…10 years ago?! it obviously doesn’t fit the daughter I started it for… sigh. I dropped a couple of stitches. into the rabbit hole it went….it’s such a nice one! Happy Happy to the sweetness!
