After my first ever camping trip, I wasn’t sure that camping was going to work out for me. You were all so encouraging in your comments when I shared about that trip and had lots of great advice. I knew I wanted to try again in late August and we did! This time we stayed two nights on Back Creek (exact same spot). I was able to sleep decently, I think because I was more relaxed in general regarding sleeping outdoors with the wildlife and more importantly, I wasn’t cold. Sleep makes all the difference! The wildflowers didn’t disappoint and it was a wonderful time all around. I don’t think there will be more camping for me this year because my fall is shaping up to be quite full, but I look forward to more trips next year.
Thank you for all the wonderful and sweet comments you left on my giveaway post! I couldn’t believe how many of you participated! I mailed out the prize last week and I am already planning the next one. The book I plan to include is by one of my favorite authors, perhaps my very favorite. She happened to write a book set on Back Creek. So there’s a clue for you…
This week we jump back into homeschooling and I hope I’m ready for it! I’ll be teaching high school biology at our co-op this year, which is surely going to be easier than teaching chemistry, right? The preparation has been super time consuming but I do think that the execution will require less brain power.
I’m reading a great book right now (recommended by one of you), but I’ve hardly knit at all in recent weeks. I’m hoping to be back soon with more to share about both!
There is a wonderful movie and book called The Woman Who Loved Giraffes. The true story of a young girl who lived giraffes and was determined to study them. She went to Africa (I heard of at the time – the 50s I think – for a single female) to study them and became the world’s leading scientific expert on giraffes. She fought sexism in the university system and eventually won. She is currently working to save the dwindling giraffe population. An inspiring true story!
Ginny, I am so glad for you that camping went well this time! It sure does look gorgeous there. Back in the day, I always harbored the desire to be an intrepid, confident in the wild, camping sort of girl, but was too timid to try … now it is too late (disability, chronic illness, homebound). Good for you for going again! For seeing it through, and having a wonderful time, to boot.
Your photos are beautiful as always. I don’t like camping but kids are never happier than living outdoors for a while. These will be great memories they will always have. Is it Job who is the fisherman?? I love it!! He definitely has some Grandaddy Gilbert and Uncle Woody genes!! Love to you all.❤️
I can’t imagine not enjoying camping in that lovely, pastoral setting! My childhood camping experiences were in the Rocky Mountains, it was hard, usually COLD (my dad didn’t realize until I was in HS that the sleeping bag he gave me was no good.) That did make me decide as an adult that I would not go camping. However, those memories were extraordinary. I’m glad you had a good time; it looks beautiful.
I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoy your family and love the fact you share them with me. I know you realize how blessed you are.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
You are such an inspiration to many of us I am sure. You chronicle your family’s journey through life so beautifully. It’s wonderful to watch your family growing.
Your photography is beautiful and inspiring.. Good to hear that you’re teaching photography as well as biology. What wonderful subjects. Keep up the very good work you are doing Ginny. God bless all of you!
When I saw your post in my inbox this morning, entitled “Camping Again”, I couldn’t WAIT to read it! Oh, Ginny, I’m so very glad that you tried sleeping in the outdoors again and that you didn’t hate it this time! I wrote before about my love of camping since childhood, and it thrills me to see you add this to your life, making it even richer. As always, your pictures have started my day with a smile on my face. You are an amazing photographer, and bring joy to so many of us. Thank you.
Our DIL started her homeschooling teaching with our twin 6-year-old grands last week, and has sent some incredible pictures. Watching the ecstasy on children’s faces as they learn and discover is one of the best things of my life, and I’m finding that when it’s my grands faces, it’s even better.
Beautiful landscape.
I soo love your posts! They always make me feel less stressed and more thankful! Filled with soo much beauty 😍 Glad you enjoyed camping a bit more this time! Yes, not being cold always makes all the difference!
These pictures are so breathtaking. Makes me excited to camping again asap as well!
I’m happy you gave it another shot and enjoyed it.
By the way, Silas and Mabel both look so grown up (in different ways) in some of these photos. Cool to see.
And Larkspur with a camera…can we expect “gsheller-the second generation” soon? 😉
Have a good week!
That’s Beatrix with the camera! And yes, I hope so! I am teaching her photography for one of her high school classes this year. 🙂
So glad you tried camping again! Your photos are just beautiful! We so enjoy camping and sometimes it’s just nice to get away and immerse in nature.
Have you posted your kerchiefs yet or did I miss them?
Hi Heidi! I haven’t posted them yet. I think it will be the week of the 17th. 🙂
God’s beauty in all of your photos. Thank you for sharing these with us.
