Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me every Wednesday to share a single photo of what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Share your photo on your blog, on Instagram (#yarnalong), or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us!~

I made good progress on my shawl this week, wanting really badly to reach the first lace panel.  I’m a little ways into the chart now, so this shawl has gotten a lot more interesting, but also a lot harder to work on.  I’ll only be able to work on the lace panels at night when everyone is asleep!

I’m mostly doing homeschooling related reading right now, but I’m also reading Then There Were Five to my girls.  This is by far my favorite of  the Melendy books, and my girls agree.  It’s a fantastic read aloud.

I first read the Melendy series in third grade, almost 50 years ago . I love them. “Then There Were Five” is my favorite, too. Have you read Enright’s Gone Away Lake series? My children loved them, too.

I absolutely agree with you on that Melendy series. That was our top pick too.

Can’t wait to see your shawl all complete.

We love those books! By the way, they also are available on audio, read very well (just how I imagined Cuffy’s, Mrs. O’s and Willy’s voices). We’ve read the books many times, but listening to the download from audible was the icing on the cake. You need to start the Moffat series when you are done. Your little boys would love “Rufus M.”

We finished the first one from the series after you recommended it, and now I’ve just ordered book 2 and 3 from abebooks! Thanks so much!

I too can only work on lace when I am alone at night. For some reason, it requires every ounce of concentration I have not to mess it up!

Every time I see you mention the Melendys, I want to read them! I need to see if our library has them.

    Happy, happy week!

pretty knitting, Ginny! Hopefully you’ll memorize the chart and then you can knit on autopilot!
