This week I did more reading than knitting. Ever since reading Kristin Lavransdatter, years ago, I have wanted to read Sigrid Undset’s The Master of Hestviken series as well. I read the first in the series, The Axe, last week, and while it’s not Kristin, it was still very good. While waiting for my copy of the next in the series to arrive, I read Jean Fritz’s Homesick. It is considered juvenile literature, and I have wanted to read it since reading another of her books, about China’s Long March, for a class I teach at our homeschooling co-op. Homesick is autobiographical, and details Fritz’s time living in China as a child in the mid-twenties. I enjoyed reading her story.
I’m just about ready to divide for the legs on that pink jumper!

I love Jean Fritz books but especially enjoyed reading her autobiography. My daughter loved Kristen Lavransdatter so I will suggest this one for her next. Beautiful shade of pink for that jumper!

Since I started participating in your link-up, which was about a month ago, I’ve purchased ten books. You all are reading enablers, not like I need any coaxing. I enjoy reading and do that daily. You’ve mentioned a few books that interest me and so I’ll be sure to check them out. I also love the pink jumper that you are knitting, it’s so bright and colorful! 🙂

I loved Kristin, so am not sure why I’ve never read Master of Hestviken! You have such good book recommendations–The Shepherd’s Life was a great read.

So much lovely Pink! One of my daughters got me a nice vintage copy of Master of Hestviken for Christmas and I’ve been saving it for after Easter. The Jean Fritz looks interesting, as we’ve long read all her little US history books.
Ginny, that little jumper is so precious! I love reading juvenile literature and almost always have one book of young adult or children’s fiction on my nightstand. I haven’t read Homesick but it sounds really interesting! I love your blog, as always!
I also loved Kirsten Lavransdatter…one of my all-time favourite reads. I haven’t read any other of her books, but as my oldest is studying Vikings and Norse mythology, it might be a great time to dig into this series, too.

Ginny I love reading your blog and seeing your sweet family. My children are grown now but I do look fondly on those days. It does go by so quickly. Even tho my girls are grown I was fascinated by your read last week. Even tho I have no pitter patter of feet right now , I am still a mother and so I ordered Soul Gardening and had already received the winter copy.
