Several of you assured me that I would love my Barn Sweater, remarking that you wear yours all the time. And it’s true, I love it! I finished it just in time for actual winter temperatures to arrive, and I’ve been wearing it constantly. I’m so glad that I used Beaverslide wool to knit it. It’s sturdy and warm, and I know it will hold up to lots of wear. I had been saving a set of WoolyMossRoots black walnut buttons for I don’t know how long, three years maybe, and was so happy as I sewed them on. I think they suit this sweater just perfectly.
But, there was one little thing that I couldn’t and didn’t take into account when I began this sweater last summer…

My Barn Sweater doesn’t quite fit in the middle because we are expecting a new little one in late June! We’re pretty excited. BABY!!! You might think that it gets to be routine after so many, but it doesn’t. I can hardly believe it. And that is despite the fact that we already know the sex of this little one.
Maybe we should play a little guessing game! If you include your guess of whether this baby is a boy or a girl in a comment, I will randomly select one of the correct guessers and send you one of my favorite books, and what I happen to be re-reading right now: a new hard copy of My Antonia. Unless you already own two copies (like me). In that case, I’ll send you Kristin Lavransdatter
. I’ll reveal the news end of the week in a new post, and announce/email the winner.
****Guessing game is over! She’s a girl!! And I’ve just emailed Claire, who commented, “Girl, girl, girl!
Congratulations! Wonderful news. You look beautiful. Would love to read either of your favorite books. Blessings to you both!”
Thank you all for your congratulations and for playing along with me!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
I wait for your posts and read faithfully, but rarely comment, but today I had to. I am so excited for you and surprised. I predict girl cause you need another girl. Though all babies are precious. I wish you a healthy baby with a good delivery! And your sweater is lovely and you can leave it open at the bump.
Wow, exciting news! I could have really used one of those sweaters with my most recent pregnancy…cover up the backside! 😉
I’m guessing girl just because another girl would even the odds a bit. xx
Oh my! Congratulations! I predict a girl :-). and Love your sweater, btw.
Congratulations! It is a boy!
Congratulations, and it will be a boy 🙂
Congratulations!!
I am guessing a girl!
Congratulations!! The cardigan is lovely and a gorgeous colour – it really suits you!
I’m going to guess a girl, simply because I am also pregnant with (baby #5!) a girl due in April! I also had my last baby a few months before you had Job! Hope you are keeping well!

Bravo ! Je pense a une fille.
Congratulations!!!! And I’m voting for a girl
Congratulations for your wonderful family (with the new baby boy, I guess) and your wonderfull knittings!
For some reason, I’m thinking it’s a girl.
I love your barn sweater. You look great in it!
Congratulations! I’m going to guess girl :). I’ve got a copy of My Antonia, but I haven’t read Kristin Lavransdatter. Perhaps it’s time, eh?
I’m pretty sure you’ve got a girl in there…. 🙂
Oh, goodness, Ginny! Congratulations! I’m guessing girl, though not because I claim to have any sort of prescience for this kind of thing (I thought that my own daughter was going to be a boy because she kicked so very much!). I love that yellow yarn that you used for your sweater–that color was my favorite of all the yarn that you dyed this year.
Congratulations! Lucky baby! (girl)
I’ll say a girl. Congrats!
Congratulations! I’m going to say girl 😉 The Lord bless you and keep you!
Congratulations! I’m guessing you’re having a boy. We are expecting our 11th child in June as well. Such a lovely time of year to have a baby. I’m guessing we are having a girl, but we won’t find out until the end of this month 🙂 Your sweater is gorgeous – you do such professional work!
Congratulations to you and your lovely family, Ginny! What a blessing and what a joy! I’m guessing you’ll be welcoming a baby boy into your family, but then what do I know? Btw, you look just beautiful and your sweater turned out great! xo Lisa
What beautiful news! I am happy for you and already praying for a smooth and easy birth, healthy mama and healthy baby. You are a lovely mother (and in your sweater!) and your baby GIRL is blessed to be among your little flock! Thanks as always for the inspiration.
Congratulations to all of you! I know the wee baby girl will be such a loved blessing!
Beautiful sweater! It looks lovely on you. My guess is a boy! Congratulations! 🙂
Congratulations on your new little girl!!!! 😉
Congratulations! And I think it’s a sweet baby girl 🙂
Oh wow, congratulations! I’m guessing girl.
Wow, a baby! I’m guessing boy.
I hardly ever comment, but follow faithfully. My husband and I have been going back and forth about the possibility of another baby…it would be number 8 as well, at age 42. I really thought perhaps I would be okay being complete with 7 children, but seeing this post and seeing you all beautiful and pregnant, made me tear up and realize I could never say no to even the possibility of another image bearer of our Father. Thanks for the reminder of what is good and true! It’s a girl.
And I just found out that I am pregnant! So glad!
If I could close my eyes and make a wish, I would wish for the girls to have a baby sister this time.
Either way you will have the cutest baby ever because all your children are like that. Can’t wait to see all the new knits that you have planned.
Congratulations Mum and Dad and children.
The miracle of a baby could never be routine. Congratulations!!! I am rooting for a baby girl for those 2 big sisters 🙂 Looking forward to seeing all your sweet baby knits!
Well another precious one, I think it will be a little girl. God Bless you and your wonderful family ! Hugs Sandra
Awww…that’s perfect!! So happy for you, Ginny! AND…Girl. It’s a girl. 🙂
That sweater is beautiful! Congratulations!! I am guessing a girl, we are expecting in late June as well, I am hoping to see what you knit up for this one 🙂
I’m going to have to say twins. Boy and a girl. The sweater looks good on you anyway! Congratulations to you all!
I think it’s a sweet little baby BOY!!
You pop out some cute ones. 🙂
We are expecting another little girl! She is 1.5 years old, totally blind, and totally precious. She is in China!!
Babies are the best!! Congratulations!! 🙂
Congratulations – that is such awesome news! My guess is that it’s a girl. 🙂
Congratulations! And, what a wonderful way to share the news. I love the gradual photo reveal. I will guess boy if only because I have two myself and think they are just the best (though I’m sure I would say the same about girls if I had them.) Many, many blessings to you and your family!
beautiful sweater!! I am guessing girl! So excited for you!!!
Congratulations and blessings on your pregnancy! How is your back feeling?
I’m guessing girl. You look wonderful!
What wonderful news! I’m going to guess it is a girl. 🙂
You do such lovely work! I am allergic to most wool, and it just depresses me. I’m thinking it’s gonna be a sweet little girl.
Lynette
Girl! Beautiful sweater 🙂
CONGRATULATIONS!!! The sweater is gorgeous & the news is wonderful & worthy of celebration!
I am guessing girl! Just because it’s time the girls had another girl 🙂

How exciting! Let’s guess girl! Either way, so wonderful. 🙂
Congratulations! Love the sweater, buttons and the color is beautiful. I am going to guess a boy!
Congratulations ???
a boy??
I’m not good at guessing games but I’m feeling a girl vibe here. Kristin Lavransdatter is my personal favorite book and it takes a permanent place on my night stand – I pick it up all the time to reread sections. I’ve never read My Antonia; perhaps it’s time. Congratulations.
What lovely news! Congratulations! The sweater looks great, and those buttons are perfect. And you can always wear it buttoned next year. 🙂
Oh, congratulations! My guess is for another girl. 🙂
Congratulations! How wonderful and exciting! You knit such lovely things and I always enjoy seeing them because sadly my knitting skills are very basic. I’ll guess a boy?
