I ordered a few skeins of Beaverslide worsted weight yarn in the Winter Wheat colorway a few weeks ago, with plans to knit something for one of my girls. When the yarn arrived they didn’t love the color, but I did. So, I ordered another few skeins and decided that I would knit myself a yellow Barn Sweater even though my original plan for this sweater was for it to be a more neutral shade. I’ve knit a couple of sweaters in Beaverslide yarn, and while I really love the way it wears (it hardly pills) and feels, there isn’t much elasticity to the yarn, making it hard on my hands. Someone suggested washing the skeins before washing, and I am doing that, in addition to knitting at a slightly looser gauge than the pattern calls for, but ultimately I believe I will just need to make this a slow knit, which is fine and totally worth it to own a sweater knit from such beautiful wool.

Hi Ginny, I keep meaning to ask you, do you think a beginner could knit a milo vest? I can knit, purl, knit 2 together and cast off. Love this little vest and would love one for my boy. Thank you
Definitely! That was one of my first projects. The only tricky part is casting on the underarms, but there is a good photo tutorial included with the pattern. You can do it!
You’ve inspired me with your encouragement. I’ve ordered some yarn, the needles and have studied the instructions. Yikes, I don’t even know how to kfab! Youtube here I come! I can do this!

But what I really wanted to comment on was the books. I’ve read a bunch this year and while most of my reads have been pretty ho-hum, those two were some of the few I’d recommend. Counting by 7’s especially!!

I think the color is gorgeous, it’s one of my new favorite colors and I am doing accents in my living room in that kind of shade. I agree with Karen that it strikes me as relatively neutral; it’s no fuschia at least! 🙂 I couldn’t help wanting to read that book since I have daughter named Rosie and now am drawn to all things “Rosie.” Although your thoughts and the comments from others here continue to make me want to read it all the more! Off to the library website!
I am in love with everything in Madder Anthology 2. I might have to actually buy the book. And yet, I’ve never knit myself an entire sweater. I think I just can’t justify the time when I have all these kids to knit for!
To anyone out there how did you hear about Beverslide yarn? I’m always wondering how all of you come up with these beautiful yarns? Are they at your LYS?

i am happy to learn that you are making the barn sweater; i just purchased the pattern and love it! i plan to knit it in a neutral color, probably mushroom or taupe. beaverslide is an “outdoor” type of yarn, just perfect!

I just purchased the Barn Sweater pattern. I think that yarn is a beautiful color you’ve got. After reading the pattern, this might be a little over my comfort level, but now I’ve got it in case I make it some day. It’s such a pretty pattern. I got started on Clue 4 of the Tales from the Isle of Purbeck mystery knit along. I’m anxious to get this completed before this weekend when my daughter and her 3 little ones come back from their mini-vacation from Minnesota and Wisconsin visiting her siblings.
I think it’s a pretty color! Course my sports teams of choice are usually wearing black and gold, so that color matches their uniforms!
Beaverslide is a nice yarn. I made my husband a sweater with it a few years ago and I agree, it was hard on my hands but it made a beautiful and WARM sweater for him.

I love the colour too, its lovely. Now the rosie project, Im not a fan of romantic comedies usually, but I have heard a few good reviews. I may well have to give it ago!
we read The Rosie Project for our book club choice for June this year. I agree it was enjoyable an easy book to read.
