Just before Job was born, I was gifted a beautiful shawl knit in The Fibre Co.’s Meadow yarn. That shawl has become one of my most worn knits, partially because it’s lovely to wear something that someone else made for me, but also because I really love the feel of that yarn. It’s fine and delicate, yet sturdy. It isn’t soft in the way a pure merino yarn is, but it is soft in it’s own unique way. I can’t really describe it!
So now I am knitting with Meadow myself, a shawl that is meant to be a gift as well. The colorway I chose is called Larkspur, and I think it’s beautiful. (My Ravelry notes are here.)
I’m still reading Don Camillo, but am also reading a new to me gardening book, Vegetable Gardening in the Southeast. I’ve been gardening for an embarrassingly long time to still be as terrible at it as I consider myself to be. Information doesn’t stick with me, I have to look everything up all over again every year.

Ginny, where did you purchase the meadow yarn? I live near charlottesville and the lys has never heard of it!

This one is going to be so lovely, Ginny. I am working on the Tess shawl you wrote about last week. You were right. It is such a restful pattern. I’m going to carry it with me all summer – even here in South Texas. The summers are very hot, but everything is so well air conditioned I always carry a sweater with me. This shawl will be so much nicer. Thank you! (And I finally did figure out the pattern!).

I thought I was the only one who had to look up stuff every year. In my eyes you are an amazing gardener, so I find this encouraging. I can’t even get my rhubarb to flourish which is supposedly one of the easiest things to grow.
Rain, we cut down our rhubard every fall and then dump our wood burner ashes over the rhubarb during the winter. I’m always amazed every spring how the shoots come right up through the ashes. We probably put an inch or 2 of ashes on top of the spot. Not sure if that will help you if you don’t have a wood stove. Once the rhubarb really gets big, we start chopping the stalks until there is about 1/3 left of the plant. My husband occasionally will hit it with Miracle Gro a couple of times during the summer and I’ll remove any dead stalks/leaves. I get a huge crop of rhubarb to put in the freezer and give away that first harvest in late spring/early summer before the bugs get to it. We’ve got 4 plants that are about 6 years old. Good luck!

I haven’t knit with that yarn yet, I adore the colorway and the pattern looks interesting and fun. I’m knitting a tried and true pattern as well, the citron shawl (fifth one!)
Beautiful yarn. I can’t wait to see how your shawl turns out. I’m the same way with gardening. My husband is wanting me to do the gardens again this year, but I’m a terrible weeder. I start out well. I was going to maybe try the straw bedding to see how this would work. We’ve got a teenager that comes every year and tills up the garden and does a great job. I thought I’d have him till it a little later than usual and buy the plants from the stores, then put the straw down. I let the weeds get away from me last year, and the onions I didn’t get out are now coming up great. I was surprised they would live through an Iowa winter. Hope you have success with your garden as well this year!
