~~ Visiting a friend’s farm, I held a little lamb for the first time.  Good medicine, indeed. ~~

No pressure…but these pics would be perfect for a children’s book. No words needed! Love!

you look lovely for your farm visit! as a form of therapy, i help out on a small local farm every Saturday, in overalls and whatever hooded sweatshirt is lying on the floor that morning–not nearly so posh! i might need to step up my game now–your pictures are gorgeous.

i am more of a pig cuddler, but my volunteer farm will have lambs in the spring, and now i am looking very forward to it indeed.

So those are, without a doubt, some of the best animal photos I have ever seen in my life. I seriously cannot imagine what magic you used to get them — High ISO? Big open aperture? Just pure Ginnyness? I think the last. Girl, you’ve got the magic touch. I love you.

I love guineas!! I grew up on a sheep farm in the Shenandoah Valley and I can testify – holding a lambie is ALWAYS good medicine.

Animals and nature can truly be the best medicine for a difficult day. I enjoy daily snuggles with our obliging dog Hazel! Plus, my pregnancy hormones make me a total sucker for animal videos and pictures. My twitter is cluttered with pictures of cute animals . . . it gets the waterworks going every time!

Good medicine indeed! After the stress of purchasing a new phone (and having to call in to the new carrier with my old NET10 phone), I went to check my email and voila, your posting was there to greet me and the farm photos were the best stress-relief yet. Keep up the good photo work and I hope you are feeling much better.

    Hi Ginny,
A couple of weeks ago I was sort of “forced” to move from Virginia, where I’ve spent most of my life, to Florida, where I did not particularly want to go at all! (My mother, who I had been living with and caring for, passed away, and I needed to find a place to live. My first choice was near my son in Japan, second was near my daughter in Maryland, and third was here, near my eldest son, in the land of Eternal Summer. I definitely like 4 seasons, summer being my least favorite.) All this is a preface to telling you that, since I started packing, preparing for this move, doing it, and trying to unpack/settle in, over a period of about six weeks, I’ve not had time to read your blog. Today was the first chance I’ve had, and I was glad to see that you just posted photos. Not that I don’t really enjoy reading everything you write — I just loved seeing the photos today.
I’ve been a spinner (of wool) for the past 30 years, and the times I’ve been able to be around sheep (and especially the lambs) have been so special to me. Lambing season is big in rural County Kerry, Ireland, where I was blessed to live from 2006-08, and I just loved to see the new lambs jumping and playing in the field across the road from my wee cottage — at times, there were hundreds of rams, ewes and lambs baa-ing and meandering around that field.
But, since you didn’t actually write anything today, I found myself scanning the Reading Lists you post on the right side of your page. Delightful! I recognized several favorite authors and books, but I also went to Amazon to reference some of the ones that were unfamiliar to me. (For instance, I’ve not read anything by Jane Kirkpatrick, but I surely will now; and, the books by Elizabeth Goudge sound like ones I’d like.) I keep a basket of Books to Read next to my bed, and it looks like now I’m going to need a second basket. Since there is no Autumn (my favorite season) or Winter here, in which to enjoy reading by a fire, drinking hot tea with milk, I guess I’ll have to take a book to the pool in my “55 and Up Condo Community.” 😉
Thanks for being the type of Earth Mother I was back in my 20s and 30s — your posts bring to mind a lot of what my life was like then, even though I only had three children. Gardening, canning, cooking, spinning, crafting, reading, writing, tending to my family, and serving in my church were the joys of my life. I know you know what I mean. My biggest regret was not cherishing every single blessed, frustrating, joyous, exhausting, lovely moment at the time . . . because now, when the years have flown by at such a breakneck speed, I can hardly remember how I spent an average day. My children are grown, and I am a grandmother six times over. Looking at photos from that time is bittersweet: I love remembering the events, but my heart aches to have a single day back again — smothered in burp-up, bread flour, and my babies’ breath.
‘Sorry, ‘don’t know how I go onto all this. I really just wanted to tell you how much your photos with the farm animals meant to me today and how grand it was to find new titles to add to my list of Books to Read.
    God bless,
    Charlene

Wow, what a great day. I love all the pictures of the animals. That would be kid heaven. I always wanted a barn but that probably isn’t going to happen but I love visiting farms, such fun.

I love living on a farm. We don’t have some of these animals but we do have chickens, cows, cats and dogs… :)It is something like therapy to go sit and be with the animals.

I see you got in some lamb hugs. Don’t know why but I have a tendency to hug goats whenever I get a chance. Some of the best medicine there is!

Oh, my family needs this so much! My 9 year-old just lost all her hair (alopecia universalis)…well, I should say she finally lost all of it after a year of losing it, and though she’s not particularly upset, on the outside, I know this would be so, so good for her. And for my 14 year-old girl, too. I’m gonna find a farm! Thanks for the tip! And I’m glad you got to hold that dear little thing!
