Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading (though not at the same time!), and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

I finished up the Claret Cowl last week.  It’s a quick knit if you’re looking for a last minute gift!  (I cast on 99 rather than the 88 stitches the pattern calls for.)

Right now, I’m knitting a Knubbelchen for Job.

I’m reading The Reed of God upon the recommendation of a friend (it’s good Advent reading), and planning to read The Lion in the Box to my kids this week.  It’s out of print, but I found it at the library.

After your Yarn Along last week, I downloaded the Claret Cowl and knit it up for a Christmas gift. I wish, though, that I had also cast on 99 stitches. It’s a little smaller and less drapey than I was expecting (even though I used a wool/silk blend). I really should have been working on the poncho I’m knitting for one of my daughters, but that seems to be taking FOREVER and it was too tempting to do a quick, satisfying project. I am so jealous of you ladies who have knitting stores nearby. We had a bookstore that carried a bit of yarn and knitting supplies, but that went out of business in the summer (I made sure to replenish my stash before the doors closed for good). I have to order everything online, which is not very tactilely or visually satisfying. I think the nearest decent brick and mortar yarn store is about 2 hours away.

The Lion in the Box is one of Eliza’s favorites. It’s a perfect read aloud for this week!

I had not heard of these books, and I wrote down the titles to add to my long list of “to read” books. As a retired librarian, author of two books (one is about celebrating Christmas) and devoted reader, I do love to read.

I’m sure you know about this, but I just read that a new knitting shop is opening on Cowen Blvd! Exciting!

I didn’t! I hope our community can support two knitting stores. I love Old Town Yarnery, and it is awfully close to the location of this new shop…http://www.oldtownyarnery.com/

I’ve had the Knubbelchen pattern in my queue for a long time. I love the colors you’re using! Seeing your finished one will probably inspire me to finally knit it. And I look forward to seeing the finished cowl, hooray for quick projects!

I love Caryll Houselander, but never read this one. Thanks for the reminder. Happy Advent to your family!

You are going to LOVE The Lion in the Box! My mother used to read it to us when we were children and now I have my own well worn version that I read to my little ones. It is a very beautiful book.
