Today’s giveaway is from Sarah’s Silks! Her family run shop is full of beautiful silk creations, perfect for creative, open-ended play.

Hi, I am Sarah from Sarah’s Silks, happy to be collaborating with Ginny here at Small Things. I started our family business 20 years ago when I had two small children who loved to play pretend and dress-up. We were involved with a playgroup at our local Waldorf School, Summerfield, in Sonoma County,CA. I observed the children playing with simple pieces of cloth and wood sticks having so much fun.
The Waldorf philosophy of “provide open ended toys to leave a lot for the child’s imagination” made sense to me. My son was one of those kids who is always “itchy”, you know from tags and such, so I dyed him some silk squares for play. He liked how they felt and he used them to make capes, pretend grass and water. The neighbors played so well with them too, that I thought maybe I could sell them. We had a small local toys store that I approached to see if they would try selling them, they were enthusiastic so we were off! My husband, Mike, soon joined in, naming the silks “playsilks”. We went on to make rainbow playsilks at the suggestion of a Waldorf teacher….then capes, skirts and more.
We are a small family run business still, in our home with our sons helping us along with a few great employees. We strongly believe in the power of imaginative play to help children develop into creative thinkers.
Today we are giving away a giant silk scape of your choice. These are 9 feet by 3 feet long and are the perfect open ended piece for the playroom! They can be giant capes, turned into forts and much more.
Also, for all of the Small Things readers we have coupon code: smallthings for 10% off your order on our web shop for this week only.
