I’m knitting away on Larkspur’s birthday shawl. She saw it on my dresser the other day and knew right away what it was since she chose the yarn for it. So much for trying to work in a bit of a surprise factor. Since then, I’ve been working on it during the day too and it makes her so happy to see me knitting on it that I’m glad she saw it.
I am reading far too many books at once. I don’t know why that happens sometimes. I’m taking the third book in The Good Earth trilogy slowly. It’s not holding my attention quite so well as the first two books did. I took a little detour this week and read Clutterfree with Kids

I picked up Capote’s short stories this week too; I was reminded of them with the passing of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Isn’t it interesting how different Breakfast at Tiffany’s was from the movie? Both are wonderful though.
Enjoy the snow! This will be our first time sledding since moving to Virginia!!

I loved Breakfast at Tiffany’s, I must read it again some time.
I think kids like seeing how hard or long we work on knitted things for them.
It’s nice when they see us working on their projects, even when we want to surprise them.

I’m reading Clutterfree with Kids too! I’ve been reading Joshua’s blog for the past year and it was so timely for me and has given me the permission I needed to continue what I started. I can see that I’ve stood in the way of my own dreams by not planning for them and saving the money to pursue better things than a house full of stuff. Hope you find some inspiration from him too.

That fuchsia color is gorgeous! I tend to choose earthy colors but I do love a bold gem tone. I hear Breakfast at Tiffany’s is very good. I was in the habit of reading the classics in my early 20’s, now it’s more about new stuff for me.
Larkspur’s shawl will be beautiful! It reminds me of the days I was her age and my mother knitted beautiful things for my brothers and me:)

Oh Ginny, I forgot to comment yesterday. You had me laughing so hard with the diaper in a bag… Once, one of my babies pooped in the middle of the night and I didn’t notice that some of it got in my hair, not even when I got dressed and looked in the mirror. So I went out to eat with a friend who looked at me from across the table and told me “oh hey come here, let me get that mustard out of your hair”. Yeah, motherhood is funny, just keep laughing.
Both of my sisters and my mom all read several books at once while I only read one at a time, maybe I’m missing something.
Ginny, I love Breakfast at Tiffany’s and hope you’re enjoying it too. Also, have you read Rudolfo Anaya’s novel Bless Me, Ultima?I’ve taught it in 9th grade English classes and am currently rereading it – it’s a great coming-of-age story set in New Mexico in the 1940’s. I think you would like it, and it might be a good option for your older boys. I love the photo of your knitting, as usual!

I’m sure she will be surprised when she sees her shawl totally complete! I have a bad habit of trying to read too many books at one time myself. Then I never finish any of them!
I just love the yarn you’re using for the shawl! I hope going through this pattern it doesn’t make you aware of the mistakes I made in the previous one! I messed up the garter stripes at the beginning, but decided the “messed up” version looked cool as well. 😉 The Good Earth has been on my reading list for a few years. I am also reading too many books at once right now!
