About a month ago I wrote about Job’s eczema and my efforts to try to get to the root of his flare ups. I can’t tell you that I have figured things out yet. Dairy and eggs don’t seem to be triggers, so that is a good thing. I’ve switched my laundry detergent (I’m using Charlie’s Soap now) and I keep humidifiers running. Job’s skin will look perfect one day, and terrible the next. It’s frustrating. One thing that I have figured out though is that my friend Rachel’s new eczema balm, hilariously named “Da Balm,” is incredibly effective at calming and clearing Job’s flare ups. I realized this because during the time I was applying it to Job’s face several times daily, the angry red patches on his face healed and disappeared completely. He might still have a flare up, but his skin would heal with a few days of diligent application of Da Balm. Then one day I went to grab it from the shelf and it was gone. I searched and searched but couldn’t find it. Over the next week or so I used LuSa’s Booty Balm, my standard choice for chapped faces in the winter, on Job’s face. It seemed to help a little, but not nearly as well as Da Balm had. Job’s face was looking bad again when I discovered my little tin of Da Balm under the bed. Within two days of using it again, his skin looked great. I don’t know what caused that last flare up, but I know that Da Balm calmed and soothed it.
When I purchased that little tin of Da Balm, it was still in the testing phase and I didn’t know whether or not it would end up becoming a permanent LuSa product. I emailed Rachel wanting to know what her plan was, because my tin was nearly empty and my own attempts at making an eczema balm failed (my older son Seth claimed that my homemade stuff made his eczema worse!) I was thrilled when Rachel wrote back that Da Balm would actually be available for purchase on the LuSa Organics website in a few days! She suggested a little giveaway to properly introduce Da Balm to my readers and I gave an enthusiastic, “Yes!” I’m so happy to be able to share Da Balm with all of you!
I asked Rachel to share a little background with you, the story of how Da Balm came to be:
I designed Da Balm after dozens upon dozens of customer requests for a safe, effective balm for eczema care. Our Booty Balm was helping these customers, but there were other herbs that I knew would be incredible for eczema and other red, itchy rashes. Finally my own family began to struggle with eczema and I had the perfect opportunity to test and perfect at home! Two years (and many product testers later), Da Balm was born.
Da Balm begins with an organic infusion of seven different herbs. Each time I work with a new herb I’m humbled by how gentle and effective plants are at helping our bodies heal. These roots, leaves, and flowers are combined with several soothing oils and essential oils to make a rich, gentle, non-irritating rash balm.
Da Balm is a comfort – not a cure. Any topical treatment alone will not heal eczema. That is an inside job and requires the deep work of figuring out what is causing your or your little one’s outbreak. But Da Balm is designed to help quiet and soothe the itch and irritation.
It’s also soothing for chicken pox, garden rashes, and insect bites. Anything itchy!
(You can learn more about healing eczema from the inside out in a series that Rachel wrote on her blog.)
Rachel is offering three Small Things readers a regular sized tin of Da Balm. The winners will also receive free shipping on anything else they would like to order at the same time, too.
In addition, receive a free 1 oz travel bar of Calendula Baby Soap with every Da Balm you order. Just enter the code “SmallThings” in the comments field of your next order. The LuSa team will see the comment and add the bar of travel soap when they pack your order. (Valid through February 18, 2014).

This sounds wonderful. Our Canadian winter is really playing a nasty game with my skin this year. Something that will “calm the itch” would be most welcomed.

Hi Ginny ,
We would love to try Da Balm on our daughter as she suffers eczema breakouts that we have yet to find a natural way to keep it at bay. Your experience sounds very promising.
Megan
We’d love this! My husband has very sensitive and reactive skin, and it seems our daughter has it too…
I would love to try this! All four of my kids had the worst eczema on the planet, from birth to about age 7 or 8. It covered their entire body & made them miserable. They are now ages 12 – 22 & have mostly grown out of it, but all of them still have occasional break-outs, thankfully never as severe as when they were young. When they were babies, before the internet was what it is now, there was not a lot of info available except what was filtered through dermatologists & allergists. I wish I knew then what I know now!
My grandson Nathaniel suffers from eczema. At one point, it affected over 90% of his body and we took him to CHOP (Childrens Hospital of Phil.) hoping to get him some help not only for the terrible itching, but it was beginning to affect his internal thermostat. They gave us suggestions, and we tried every remedy imaginable. We even gave him a bath in watered down bleach….that was scary, but it actually gave him some relief. He is two now and still has bouts of dry itchy skin but nothing like those first few months. “Itchy” was actually one of his first words!!! I have psoriasis, so I was especially distressed for him because I know first hand how itchy skin can make life miserable…..So it was with great interest that I read your blog today. I would love to try this new product, both for Nathaniel and myself. By the way, I love the name of the product, and coincidentally, I happen to think that your blog is also “Da Bomb” !!!
We LOVE LuSa!! Wipe juice, chest rub, chin and cheek balm, booty balm, lotion bar, soap, sugar scrub…we have it all! Never seen this one though… Our cloth diaper store must not stock it. My son has some skin issues that come and go! Would love to try this before te doctor prescribes something!
I’m excited to find a solution to my family’s and new baby’s itchy dry spots. Thanks for the give away:)
I love hearing about successful eczema healing!
How useful and exciting and generous- manys the time I’ve almost ordered from LuSa, the big kit with a bit of everything. My sensitive skinned babes plough through balms during winter especially it seems. Thanks for the chance to win.
I am so excited about this product! My daughter and my oldest son have both struggled with eczema for a long while now, and I’m glad to have a better option than what we’ve been doing so far. I’m off to read Rachel’s writing on healing eczema. Thank you for that link!
Have never tried a LuSa product and would love to especially as winter has all but destroyed our skin and made us pale scratching creatures longing for spring. Have a husband and 15 mo. old with eczema on face and arms.
My nephew has such a bad rash on his legs – I would live to see if this helps him.
Just to let you know, the free baby soap offer is ONLY after you’ve ordered $35 or more from the site. Please edit your blog posting so others won’t be caught in this mix-up. I’ve ordered one of the small size Da Bomb and am sorry that I’m not getting the soap.
Hi Patricia, Rachel from LuSa here. The free travel baby soap is for any order that contains a Da Balm! Just type “Small Things” in the comments field, order a Da Balm, and you’re set. We’ll add the soap when we pack your order. Feel free to email me if you need any help with it!
Patricia, I finally figured out what was wrong – an expired coupon code from 2012 had the same code. If you type the code into the coupon field that mysterious message was popping up. Sorry for any confusion!
I would love a chance to try this product. It could be just what we have been looking for! Thanks.
coupon code is not working
Hi Isaura, The code goes in the comments field – not the coupon field. When we see it we’ll add the soap to your order! Hope that helps.
We are always looking for something that works well for eczema – between family history and cold/dry New England winters!
This sounds like the perfect thing for my little 4-yr-old granddaughter. Its hits her the same way, one day there and the next gone. But it is itchy when its on her side or tummy. I’ve tried almost everything and her mom and dad have tried everything out there, but it still comes and goes. Hopefully I will be one of the lucky three. If not I’ll have to buy a teeny tin of it to try out.
I would like to try this – especially if it makes me look as cute as Job!
Thank you for the chance to win. I’d love to give it a try at our house!
Would love to win this product. Thank you for the opportunity.
I could definitely use this! Still trying to figure out the triggers for both me and Sam!
We’d put this to good use at our house.

We have a new babe coming and I’m the one struggling with the eczema. I’ll try anything for it, but I want it to be gentle and I’d love it to be herbal. Thanks! And Thanks for a Friday giveaway. I can never get on during the weekends!
Oh, my baby’s cheeks need this! Thanks for offering such a great giveaway!
