A Gift

Job and I returned yesterday from a little weekend trip to the serenely beautiful western part of Virginia (Bath County, Highland County I love you both).  I spent my time unplugged with the exception of one daily check of my email.  I hardly took any pictures.  I did a little knitting, a lot of reading (I highly recommend My Sisters the Saints), and had some great discussions with friends.  I realized that I am actually still capable of formulating thoughts and speaking them out loud (though I won’t claim that my thoughts or words are great or profound, but just to have them, that’s good right now).  In all seriousness, I wasn’t sure that part of me still worked.  The fog I’ve been in since Job was born has been slow to lift.  Maybe my brain just needed a little rest, a bit of quiet.  I spent time meditating on my life, examining myself and where I am, and where I need to improve.  I thought of concrete ways to get there.  Today I’m sinking back into home with a renewed spirit, so thankful for the gift of those two days.

What a blessing your days away were. Every parent needs to do that once in awhile. It not only rejuvenates you, but you return home with a renewed sense of family and love for your children. (At least I always did.) Our children are now grown and flown and oh, how I miss them. Alex, (my son in Japan), was just talking about you last night when he called. Once in awhile he still recieves an item for the earthquake/tsunami victims, some of which are still in shelters or government provided housing. Especially the elderly. He said if I talked to you, to be sure to say thank you for helping a couple of years ago through your blog. Those seeds that you sowed then are still blooming Ginny! You are a blessing to the people of Japan and Alex hasn’t forgotten you. I don’t comment often, but I read your blog faithfully and pray for your little family.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

I had a family vacation in Disney! After all the craziness each week can hold, we connected in a wonderful way without the rat race of work and whatnot. I got some knitting done, too! (Well, died knitting include unravelling and unraveling the ball of yarn that was to be knitted??? 🙂

Glad you had that time Ginny. I just had a getaway with Bracken recently and I came back to my home and life with renewed energy and inspiration. It’s nice to take a step back and get a little breather sometimes. 🙂

    Love,
    Taryn

How wonderful that you got refreshed and renewed! We all need that a bit. A friend of mine just bought me a ticket for a tour of Tasha Tudor’s home and gardens and I am over the moon excited! A wonderful girlie getaway visiting my favorite childrens author is going to totally refresh me!

It’s also just amazing how being alone or with only one child can open up a new perspective on life and let in a lot of silence where it’s needed. Glad you had a restful weekend!

Yes, Ginny, renewal of spirit, mind, and body are necessary for mothers young and old. I am so glad to have a get away! As my grandchildren’s caregiver , I too am looking forward to a little retreat in 2 weeks! I pray The Holy Spirit spoke to you in very personal ways.

I am so glad to hear this. I sense that God is giving many of us mercy and strength for our Lenten journeys that we are soon to be going on…
