Last week, my friend and midwife, Parveen visited. She, Jonny, and I were sitting on our bed fussing over Job, when she pulled him next to her and held up her phone to take a photo. She said to Job, “Let’s take a selfie.” For some reason I just died laughing. I’ve heard the term “selfie,” and I know what it means, it’s just not part of my vocabulary. To hear my British midwife use it and then make silly faces with my baby for photos was just hilarious to me. Jonny, who is much more aware of what is going on in the world than I am, said, “You know, ‘selfie’ is the word of the year.” Really?
A couple of days later, we took a trip to, you probably already figured it out, Big Meadow. I needed to go. We spent nearly the entire day getting ready to leave and ended up only having about an hour of daylight there (in exchange for about five hours total driving time which according to my oldest son, wasn’t worth it.) A few minutes after stepping onto the meadow Jonny grabbed my camera and held it out in front of our faces for, yes, a selfie. I think that these must take practice to get the angle right.
The kids ran around playing hide and go seek in the tall grass, their favorite thing to do on the meadow, and Jonny and I took turns with the camera. We even got some group shots, telling the kids, “Try to look happy for at least one or you don’t get a treat on the way home.” You know how hard it is to get group photos with children. They just don’t cooperate. One day we’re going to be so happy to have these photos. Even the kids will be glad. I think that Jonny and I will especially treasure the selfies we took in the ladies bathroom (we were the only ones left in the area) across the street from Big Meadow. Those are really nice. Ha.
In all seriousness, that place is healing for me. I’m so glad we went. The hour was worth it to me.
(Knits in this post: Bea’s sweater, Silas’ sweater-that was reworked a bit after the photos on Ravelry were posted to give him more room in the hood, Silas’ hat, Jonny’s hat, my scarf, Job’s hat)

Aww your family is so beautiful! I love the selfie of you and Johnny, you’re such a cute couple. That picture of you and baby Job is precious too. Glad you got to go to Big Meadow even if it wasn’t worth it for everyone 🙂
My goodness, Ginny. You have such a gorgeous family. I never did get to congratulate you on Job. He is so sweet.
I can’t believe I started reading your blog when Bea was a little tiny baby. Oh, how time has flown! Your older kids are getting so big and are just beautiful.
One of my little Thanksgiving blessings this year is your blog. I so enjoy your pictures…what a beautiful family.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Balisha
I absolutely love these pictures of your family…I don’t comment often….(time crunch on computer) but know you and your family have been in my prayers..I truly enjoy your blog even tho i have limited time on the computer ( you know..kids, life…now little farm to the mix)…may be later this winter I will have some time to sit and blog..you are inspiration to me…thanks for that….
Your photos are so wonderful. I love Silas’ photo of you; the look on your face is perfect.
Oh my goodness. You are all so adorable I could squeal. And seriously, it looks so November down there. We have the same sky, the same palate, the same wind chasing us down the valley here. Love to you all!
Congratulations on your beautiful new baby! He is a delight! Also such great photos of you guys playing together in the tall grass. It’s such a treasure to look back at those types of photos even in a year from now. Bless you guys!!
The hour looks SO worth it, one wants to be a little mouse to be there too with you all and enjoy…
I heard about the word ‘selfie’ for the first time on Sunday! I was pretending to take one so I could take a picture of BigSister (15) and her friend on their way out to the cinema, all bundled up. They looked so happy.
Unfortunately her friend guessed immediately what I was doing and hid. I only got one of BigSister.
About the group photos…
One year, for our Christmas picture, it took 30 pictures to get a ‘good’ one, don’t know why I kept trying… They will thank us later !!!
Such a glorious place and such wonderful photos Ginny. Thank you for sharing.
What delightful pictures. Beautiful. Lovely.
The photos are beautiful!!
That tree looks so green in contrast to the field! ♥ All of you together, smiles and laughter.
I am new to your sweet blog Ginny. I’ve come from Elizabeth’s. I am enjoying getting to know you and your family. This is such a lovely place. Thank you for being so warm and welcoming.
i love that picture of the kids with jonny and the boys are laughing… 🙂
Give love. Get Love.
Your family has it all figured out.
You have a beautiful family …
thank you for allowing me to share in your life …. it’s a Blessing to me
Beautiful, beautiful photos!
Oh my goodness…had to comment on the gorgeous photos! Makes me want to take some of my family right now. I especially love the photo of Silas in the tall grass–amazing photo!!!! Blessings to your family.
You have such a beautiful family!
Thank you for posting the pattern links – I was definitely going to ask! Beautiful photos!
Lovely photos. Thank you for sharing them. 🙂
I love it! We went to take photos by Golden Gate Bridge yesterday. It’s only about a 40 minute drive (with the city traffic) and it wasn’t terribly cold. Then we went to Half Moon Bay because Little Man wanted to see the boats. Next weekend, we’ll go back and buy fresh crab off the boats. Unfortunately, the sun was in our eyes…
Too much fun. I love seeing the group shots oh and the selfies of course.
As I scrolled through the first series of pictures, all I could think was “Look! It’s the younger Foremans in their handknits, Ginny and Jonny are even in theirs.” Then came the covert pictures of the big boys. I am partial to those. It’s good to see you and Job venturing out a bit. Your family pictures make me feel so normal. 🙂
I don´t have words, you are such a nice couple and you have such a beautiful family…..really you must feel blessed….beauty
Ginny,
What sweet and fun pictures. 🙂
Going to a special spot always seems worth the drive.
Love,
Taryn
I think these pictures are so great! I found myself smiling the whole time I was looking at them, which is why I come visit here! Beautiful family!
I love seeing all the hand knits. You have a beautiful family!
I was going to comment on how genuinely happy everyone looked in the group photo until I read your comments 😉 Yes, I have a 16 yr old son. I know all about the too cool for this phase. I think the great outdoors are very healing to the soul even if it’s only for an hour (and even to the ones that are a little grumpy about the whole thing).
Beautiful photos! We took a drive through Shenendoah a couple of weeks ago, just before the last of the leaves fell. I don’t think I’m brave enough to head up there with the kids now that it’s gotten so cold! I bet it was nice to tak baby Job to such a special place!
I pretty much love that you don’t use the term selfie. Your post about your lack of cell phones is one I think of often. I find your ability to remain unplugged so inspiring. Really, something for more of us to strive for.
Beautiful family!
Your pictures are always wonderful, but these especially touched me.
You have a wonderful collection of family photos right here … it looks like the perfect hour, even if it was only for an hour! You look fantastic too 🙂 Enjoy your week! Wendy x
I love it! So nice seeing pictures of you and Jonny together! We don’t get to see you in photos very often, I love it when we do! And these are real beauties.
love this……..
Beautiful pics! You look great!
looks so chilly out there! Loved that you got out and about and to your favorite spot. Since I am by myself when photoing my knits I’ve become somewhat a pro at “selfies”. It’s all about the angle. Loved the knitwear 🙂
I think you should frame them 😉 Actually, those ones of you with all the kids are priceless…frame those ones!
What fantastic pictures. The meadow looks like a great place to let off steam and breath in fresh air. I find the beach is where I go for the same reasons. I only heard the word ‘Selfie’ this week when I read it was going to be one of the new words destined for the dictionary. Lily. xxx
While ALL the pictures are awesome, I think my favorite ones of this bunch are the ones you both took with the kids. I love pictures of kids being themselves in group shots.
Glad you took them too! Seeing all your beautiful kiddos running around in beautiful handknits has made my morning!
Love the one of you and the kids, but the one in the restroom is hilarious!! I love it! Love seeing all of those hand knits in the Meadow too.
Ha, ha, I’ve never used the word “selfie” either, and didn’t even know it WAS a word! So you’re not alone! Nice photos, though, and love all the knitted goodness! (Knitted? Knit? Hmmm…)
Brilliant photos, I find selfies hilarious too, the angles are a disaster for me though. Most of our family shots have AT LEAST child gurning…
Love, love, love seeing pics of your family!
So important to have these moments, isn’t it? What a beautiful place to go and recharge!
Is that a Moby. wrap you’re wearing Job in? You both look so cozy! Thanks for the tribute to the word of the year!
Ginny- they are all lovely! But the one of you and your (seven!) babies is my favorite…Just wonderful! Congratulations on Job’s birth…what a beautiful baby!
Love seeing all your beautiful faces Ginny, such a beautiful family you have there.
I can not wait to head your way, I know the pull you are talking about so well.
