I think that I must be experiencing a strange knitting phenomenon. Larkspur’s Phoebe’s Sweater is knitting up very quickly for me and I have passed the halfway mark. However, I know good and well that if I were knitting with fingering weight yarn, that I wouldn’t have been able to knit the same amount of yardage in the same amount of time. Does that make sense? There’s something about knitting at 3.5 stitches/inch I guess–this particular sweater progresses so quickly and that motivates me to knit more often. I was a little worried about using Osprey yarn for this project (my first experience with it,) worried that I wouldn’t be able to get gauge and that if I did that I wouldn’t like the weight of the fabric. It’s an aran weight yarn, and the pattern calls for a bulky. However, using nice slippery nickel plated needles, I was able to get gauge with no problem. I love this yarn. I think it’s perfect, and the best shade of red (winesap.) Larkspur agrees. She is closely monitoring my progress and cheering me on. (In case you’re wondering about my yarn swift, it’s this one.)

I also think certain gauges or yarn/needle combos are quicker that others. I recently finished a sweater coat for my DD that was knit with Malabrigo Mecha at 14 sts / 4 in on US size 10 needles. I found it slow! Mostly because size 10 needles are a little hard on my hands and I felt like I was doing a lot of work to push the left needle stitches up. I think I’m the quickest with mid sized needles. The fingering weight socks are slow for me, but I could knit a fingering weight garter stitch shawl with size 5 or 6 needles pretty easily. (sjn821)
What a beautiful yarn ! Too bad I can’t try it : no retailer in France, and ordering via Internet is too difficult (taxes and customs duties..). I appreciate visiting your blog : beautiful kids, nice house, nice way of life, nice photos … Can’t join Yarn Along because don’t’ have a blog, but it’s a really good idea. I love to read as well as I love to knit – not a single day without reading or knitting. Presently I’m knitting a TD sweater for my grand daughter with Adriafil Knitcol, and reading “My Fanon Project” by John Edgar Wideman (in french). Thanks for everything and take care !

I love Osprey and have looked at that color way many times. It looks beautiful – perfect for that sweater. Ella has been asking for a Phoebe for a year now. (Oh, and I have that same swift. Love it!)
That color is gorgeous! I hesitate to by Quince and Co. again. It pills so badly. I need to get a decent sweater shaver I guess.
Gorgeous colour! I feel the same about knitting with different yarn weights. When I knit something in fingering or lace weight, I always feel like I need something chunky to balance it out and feel like I’m getting somewhere!

I’ve been trying to get courage to knit another sweater this year – which would be second sweater in my life but I’m a really slow knitter so I’m working on small quick projects this year…but the sweater you’re making inspires me to maybe re-consider my choice and maybe start a sweater too 😀 …it’s really beautiful red shade. Larkspurs sweater is really flying off your needles. I love Quince & Co. yarn , but haven’t tried Osprey yet, I need to fix that.

I have got to get back to knitting. I started & abandoned my daughter’s sweater over the summer & would like to finish it before the end of fall.
I’ m not reading anything new right now, but I just finished Love Does by Bob Goff, and I keep re-reading passages from it. It’s that good.

gorgeous!! I love to knit with fingering and laceweight but I have the time since my kids are grown. However, whenever I knit with worsted I feel like I am flying, the way the stitches just add up 🙂
