I cast on a baby blanket last week, and it is going fast! I’m using aran weight yarn: two skeins of organic Australian merino from Sweet Basil, and then another three of the same that are undyed. I thought that I would dye those three skeins, but Jonny suggested leaving them white, and I agreed that would probably be best. This yarn is very, very soft, but not a superwash, so maybe not the most practical choice for a baby blanket. But, since I had it in my stash, for me it was the obvious choice. I don’t mind taking special care of it.
I finished reading The Keeper of the Bees last night. What should I read next?

Oh the colour of your yarns are so lovely, that blue/green is my absolutely favorite colour ever. I havent been reading any novels lately but I am still managing to join in each week 🙂

Beautiful. I am feeling a little guilty that my littlest baby is now 4 months old and his blanket remains 3/4 finished due to the pesky lace patterthat has me stumped. I have a journal like yours too, isn’t it wonderful.
I have been looking at that blanket for a long time, I love it. And your color choices are beautiful, as always.
I would like to hear your thoughts on “Letters to Malcolm: Chiefly on Prayer” by CS Lewis, and would therefore suggest it, but I think you are looking for something entertaining. My husband is reading Douglas Adams’s “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” aloud to the children at the moment, and I am enjoying it more than they are. (I think Douglas Adams is an atheist, but he is a very funny atheist).
The Year of Miss Agnes is fantastic too, if you’re looking for something light and easy.
So lovely! Have you read Call the Midwife? It’s a great book – and while it overlaps a little with the BBC TV series, not enough to spoil any of the stories.
On a bee theme, read The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Kidd. It is a great little story. Take care.

Every week I am astounded that another week has gone by and I’ve still not joined in. Sigh. Thanks for the link to the Indiana author. Never heard of her and just ordered two books. SO, I will be in next week! There’s no stupid reason why I can’t find a little time to read AND knit…
I just love the colours of that blanket! Sort of nostalgic/retro, and so baby soft. Looks like a fun knit!
I don’t mind taking care of a special blanket, either. Little Man’s baby blanket (which, admittedly, needs to have ends woven in and it needs a good wash) is Brown Sheep Knitting Worsted which, sadly, has been discontinued.
I think I might get around to blocking it today even though he’s used it a couple times. ::sigh::

We had a non-superwash first blankie, too – and still have. I don’t think it’s big trouble! I’m thinking of blanket knitting, too. My love doesn’t understand – why knit it?
Feather and Fan was the first lace I learned to knit and has remained my favorite. The first blanket I knit for my granddaughter was F&F. The colors you have chosen are beautiful! Have you been watching any of Rosemary and Thyme?
Yes, I’ve watched quite a few episodes! I like it–predictable as you warned, but just the sort of light watching I needed right now.
It’s a beautiful blanket Ginny. I agree with Karen, why not a classic? Cheaper by the Dozen is on my nightstand waiting to be read again, it’s a sweet story.
I thought I would read Oliver Twist next, but I am battling a little depression right now, and I am not sure Dickens would be quite right! Maybe Jane Austen?

Karen, I saw The Orchardist on your blog, and picked it up at the library. What did you think of it?
It’s a well written book and I did enjoy it immensely. It does have sadness and heartbreak (still born baby for one teen mother) don’t know how emotional you are and it might upset you, the author doesn’t go into gory details.
I liked the redemption and the love that the main character receives thru adopting one baby and raising her as his own. Also it touches on how some people cannot be ‘saved’.
Overall I recommend 🙂
