Skyline

DSC_4943-1
The mechanic gave us the “okay” for driving to Big Meadow yesterday, so we did!  I meant for us to be home early from our trip, but we rolled in just before 11 p.m.  I took about 700 photos, so for now, I’ll leave you with a few from Skyline Drive.  Jonny pulled over so that I could take pictures of these pretty blue flowers. “Viper’s Bugloss” they are called because the seeds of these introduced plants are supposed to resemble the head of a viper.  According to the ancient doctrine of signatures, it could be used to treat the bite of a venomous snake (referring to a field guide here.)

Later on the meadow:  This pair of fawns was bleating for their mother (if that’s what you call it) and I so wanted to get that on video, but rather than make any cute sounds while I filmed, one of them decided to tinkle!  I’m sharing anyway, because fawns are cute no matter what they are doing.

Such a beautiful rock wall with sprouting plants. I love the photos with the whispy plants in the foreground against the skyline. Simple pleasures!

So excited you guys got to go! I love that you said “tinkle!” You are too cute, Ginny.

Do you ever think animals get mad when we watch them go to the bathroom? Sometimes my dog looks at me like “give me some privacy, woman!” and I feel like I have to explain to her that I’m not trying to be impolite, I’m just waiting for her to finish so I can clean it up and throw it away!

Beautiful. Deer are not native to Australia – however they were introduced many moons ago – my only sighting ever was after bringing the children to school one morning, a gorgeous stag stood in the middle of the road, as I approached, he turned and his spotted bottom strode through the bushes. xxx Hope you feeling better and the trip to the Big Meadow filled you up!

Hooray! I am so happy you were able to visit Big Meadow. The video of the babies is adorable. We have a few fawns on our property and they are so sweet.

As we drove down I-81, I was so tempted to tell my hubs to take a detour on Skyline Drive, but alas, the long drive ahead of us all the way to Charlotte (and we started the day in NY) kept me focused on just.getting.home. Some day we WILL make that drive though! Has your family ever visited the Frontier Cultural Museum? If not, you should!!!!

Beautiful! I’m a bit jealous. We went up to Big Meadow a few months ago and the flowers hadn’t begun to bloom yet, but we wanted to get up there before my husband had to leave for the summer! The blue flowers and the view are breathtaking.
