Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

Silas’ Latte Baby Coat is nearly complete.  I need to weave in ends, block, and add buttons.  I’m still figuring the button part out (it’s double breasted and gets two rows of two buttons), but I am thinking yellow buttons would look nice and brighten it up a bit.  I enjoyed knitting this little sweater, and definitely recommend the pattern.  Details are on my Ravelry page.

I haven’t committed to any fiction yet, but am waiting on a new book in the mail and really looking forward to it.  In the meantime, the new issue of Kindred arrived in my mailbox last week, which was perfect timing for me.  This issue is longer than the last, full of poems and essays, and pretty pictures too.  It’s been just what I needed these past few days.

p.s. The quilt in the background of the photo is the one that Gabe made for Silas last year. The post about it is here, one of my favorite posts ever.

    I don’t have a blog (well, technically, I do have a blog – I just haven’t posted anything yet 😉 )
I’m crocheting a new afghan – although I haven’t touched it in over a week (What is WRONG with me??!?!?)
As for reading, I just ordered 5 new books. They are all Biblical study books as I’m about to enter a Ministerial program at University.

You make the most beautiful things. Including photos. Gorgeous composition.

And yes, yellow buttons would add a happy, spunky touch.

I love that jacket, hopefully the buttoning works out.

The quilt story is amazing, I mean, what a treasure! I always marvel at the gifts your kids make for each other, I mean, that they make for each other.

Thank you for sharing so much!

I love raglan sleeve knits. They eliminate so much fuss but don’t take away from function or cuteness. I love the color too.

Sweet, sweet little sweater jacket! I’ve always heard that it’s good to learn to knit a sweater by making a baby pattern. I hope to put that theory to the test soon.

I was in serious need of something quick and cute this week. Not sure what baby will wear this, but it just had to be made 🙂 The benefit of doing foster care is that there is ALWAYS a chance that I will have a new baby in the house at any time…and therefore, I ALWAYS have an excuse to knit baby clothes, right?

Ginny … you could put in a zipper (instead of buttons) and then it’s usable for a girl, too (in case you have another … just sayin’). You could make a fun zipper pull … something nature-y like an acorn (sealed with an acrylic sealant) or something with polymer clay or a fun bead or whatever. I like zippers in young one’s sweaters better than buttons as you can fix it so they can’t pull it down!

I’ve never put a zipper in a sweater before! I do think that would be nice, and an acorn zipper pull would be really cute. But, a big part of the charm of this sweater is the fact that it is double breasted (charming in appearance, obviously not in practicality 🙂 The button bands are about 2.5 inches wide and I think that adding a zipper rather than overlapping them would make the jacket fit funny.

zippers are easy-schmeasy but I see what you say on this sweater … altho I don’t think double-breasted is a good plan with a baby … unless you could button it and then pull it over his head (my kids always had such big heads!).

If you want to add a zipper some time … let me know I can show you in 30 minutes or less!

This one’s for Silas next winter and he will be 2 1/2. Hopefully he will cooperate for the buttoning, but I’m not going to count on it! Thanks for the zipper offer! I’ll take you up on that one day!
