Maya & Ruhi Giveaway!

My name is Pearl, and I am a work-at-home mom. I came into jewelry design and crafting through my love for art and all things beautiful, after years of being a writer at a global advertising agency, and the birth of my first daughter, Maya.


Maya and Ruhi are the names of my daughters. “Maya” means “Illusion” in Sanskrit, and “Ruhi” means “Spiritual” in Persian. Maya is now 14, and a raving goofball; Ruhi is 9, and the penultimate Drama Queen. I do what I do at MAYA & RUHI because I want to let my daughters know that it is important to do what you love, and love what you do. No amount of money, recognition or fame is going to replace that sense of achievement and fulfillment of doing something you really love.

Working at home gives me the blessed opportunity to watch Maya and Ruhi grow up. Every day, I juggle the cleaning, the laundry, being chaperone, fight mediator, boo-boo kisser, cook, storyteller, general fixer-upperer… oh yes, and carving out some time to sit in my little boxroom of a studio, and craft up some pretty jewelry, while the two of them are at school.


History most inspires me. I am fascinated by stories, costumes, architecture and, of course, jewelry, from way back. I’ve created whole collections based on the life of the French Queen, Marie Antoinette, the paintings of Frida Kahlo, Tamara de Lempicka and Gustav Klimt, and the poetry of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.

To date, my most popular designs are the Chic and Unique hoops and the Klimt earrings. The Chic and Unique hoops are hand-forged, and a signature style of mine. I love how the big ones look so dramatic, fun and sexy, but yet so light and easy to wear. The Klimt earrings are inspired by the great Austrian artist, Gustav Klimt. It’s a clean and simple design concept that echoes Klimt’s mosaic style, and warm brassy tone. I have had many clients custom Klimts to match an outfit for a special occasion, and Klimts with a combination of the family’s birthstones.
