A New Heartbeat

DSC_5055-6

A couple of months ago we received a little surprise.  Last week Larkspur, Beatrix, and I listened intently as my midwife searched for our new baby’s heartbeat.  I held my breath, listening for the quick pitter-patter above my own thump-thump.  Eventually the sound we were waiting for filled the little room and I listened as my midwife counted quietly under her breath, each precious beat.  I exhaled as my eyes filled with tears.  Sometimes the unexpected gift is the one most precious.

After my appointment, Larkspur and I did the obvious thing, and stopped in at the yarn store to buy yarn for the new baby while the others went on to lunch.  This little one will join us in the fall, the perfect time of year for a knitter’s baby to be born.  Larkspur and I each chose one skein of yarn.  She will knit a hat, and I, a tiny sweater.

After lunch it was decided that rather than face I-95 and sitting for hours in traffic to get back home, that we’d take the long way through Maryland.  We stopped at Purse State Park and spent hours hunting for fossils instead.  It was a perfect way to end the day.  We often take the long way home, and we are always glad that we did.

Ginny!! Congratulations! I have been reading your blog for a while now and I love the way you write and raise your kids. When I first start reading your blog, I lived off in Turkey, but now I live in DC and was excited to see that you were down in Alexandria! I have tons of questions anout the yarn shop there and your midwife, so I’m going to send you an email. I was pregnant with my third when you were pregnant with Silas, so it was fun to see his growth. And now, I am pregnant with my fourth! I can’t wait to see all the knitting patterns you are going to use. I am due in the fall as well, so puerperium is on my list as well! So excited for you Ginny!

Just new to your blog… love reading about your family’s ways. We are not far… just in western NC, so I consider you neighbors. Love your blog. What a wonderful mama you are! Congratulations!

So happy for you. I have always wished I could have more children, but without a partner that feels the same way, I have learned to find peace with the two beautiful kids that I do have. Sometimes it can get hard, but I really do have a pretty blessed life and now I finally get to shower a coming niece with lots and lots of love. I do have one question…I love Larkspur and your dresses. Where did you get them?

Congratulations on your new niece! Larkspur’s dress is from Land’s End, and mine is Old Navy maternity from a few years back.

    Congratulations, Ginny!
I don’t know how, but I just knew. I’ve had a feeling for awhile now. I haven’t had time to read blogs in a few days and actually thought to myself, “I better check Small Things to see if Ginny has made a baby announcement yet.” Crazy, yes? You just seemed to have that baby glow recently. 🙂 I hope you are feeling well. I’ll be praying for you and baby. 🙂

Here for WIPW, but don’t see the post or linky. First time I’ve made it before the days half gone in a long while. Looks like you had a good day, except for the snakes that is. If you get the linky up later, maybe you can add me. Or maybe you’re not doing it any longer?

    Ginny,
I am a mama of four, and knowing all the challenges and joys that such life brings, I am always so inspired about how much you do and are to your family. I first read your blog when I was pregnant with my fifth and feeling rather scared and apprehensive. Your witness filled me with joy and hope, though I know the road has its tough times too. Thank you for your time in sharing your experience.
Go well with the new one!
