This weekend’s giveaway is from Brambleberry Yarns. In Cynthia’s words: “Every yarn found in my shops has been dyed using only natural dyes. The beauty of natural dyed fibers is hard to describe. They simply glow and like magic compliment each other, naturally.”

Do your children ever help out in the dyeing process? My children go along with me when I collect wild plants for the dye pots. Those trips are always so much fun and educational too as they learn about the plants we are gathering while taking notice of the ladybugs, butterflies, birds, etc that are always found on those trips. They also help in tending to the dye plants in the garden as well. Most of the actual dye process- preparing the fibers, making the dye, tending the dye pot are left up to Mama but all of my children– both the young ones and the older ones are always fascinated by the results. Actually the younger two love to help out with orders. They help me package up everyone’s order, carry it to the post office, and personally make sure they get out safe and sound. They are very familiar with yarn and fiber too I might add!

What is your favorite yarn in your shop right now? This month I have been playing around with my spinning wheel and some of my naturally dyed rovings and created a yarn that I am so pleased with right now. I blended some rovings together -one dyed with onion skins, the other indigo- to create the colors you see in the yarn pictured above. I had a vision in my head of this yarn before I even started dyeing the fibers and I am so excited to see it turn out like I envisioned.
