Luna Grey Fiber Arts giveaway!

Today’s giveaway is from Luna Grey Fiber Arts!

Luna Grey Fiber Arts is the work of Jackie Vlcek – Mama of two spirited little boys living an inspired life on the sunny, western slope of Colorado. Jackie creates colorful, hand dyed, natural fiber yarn in her home studio. Each skein is hand painted or kettle dyed making for truly one-of-a-kind works of art.

I asked Jackie to share a bit about herself, her family, and how she began Luna Grey:

” In my former life (pre-kids), I worked for the Nature Conservancy in Key West, Florida doing biological monitoring of rare plants.  Although my background is in Botany, I have also worked as a banker, jewelry designer, concierge, and a technical writer.  My current job is “Director of Development” (aka at home mama) to my two very bright and energetic little boys, Hudson (age 7) and Quinn (age 4).

Six years ago, my husband, Brian, and I built a home together in sunny Western Colorado over looking the Gunnison River.  Our home is a beautiful space for creativity, endless play, chickens, bees, organic gardening and our retired racing greyhound, Luna, for whom my shop was named.  We feel so blessed to live in an area of the country that allows us so many opportunities for camping, hiking and skiing.  While I would love to move to the country and start a sheep farm/fiber retreat/artist’s coop/organic chicken farm….My husband is my voice of reason.  He grew up on a sheep farm in Minnesota and knows the hard work and long hours involved in such a venture.  For now, our “mini farm” in the city satisfies my urge to keep animals and grow food for our family.

I have been an avid knitter for over 6 years and teach knitting classes at my local yarn shop.  Knitting is absolutely my stress reliever.  It’s what brings me calm in my otherwise crazy life.  “Mama just needs a minute with her knitting” is a phrase heard often here.  Dyeing yarn was just the next natural step.  I created my hand dyed yarn shop as an artistic outlet for me as well as a way for me to connect with other knitters and fiber artists.  What could be better than that?

My husband, Brian, is my official “Yarn Winder”.  He puts in countless hours winding (and rewinding) yarn for me.  My boys are the “Yarn Name Picker Outers” (as my 4 yr old says).  They come up with some pretty amazing and fitting yarn names.  Although there are admittedly a few names (like “Dirt” or “Toad”) that give us all a good giggle, but never make their way into the shop.
It makes me smile to think that somewhere out there my customers are experiencing the same peace and calm that knitting brings me.  Thanks so much for supporting my little mama-run home based business.  I really do appreciate it!!!”

(“Thick & Thin” yarn in “Winter Juniper”)

( “Polwarth Wool & Silk DK” in the colorway, “Lavish“)

( “Merino Wool & Silk Worsted Single Ply” in the colorway, “Tortola“)

For today’s giveaway, Jackie is offering to one winner the above pictured 100 g, 289 yard skein of her Polwarth Wool & Silk DK/Sport Yarn in the colorway, “Cherry Ice” as well as a Luna Grey project bag.
The yarn is described as, “Shades of cherry red and pink hand-dyed onto super soft, glossy, DK yarn.  85% Polwarth wool, 15% silk.  It has a beautiful drape and subtle sheen and is perfect for shawls, scarves, cowls, lacework, etc.”
Jackie is also offering 15% off your entire purchase with the coupon code SmallThings15.  This offer is good through November 30th.

Comments are closed.  The winner is Missy:  “Beautiful yarn! I love that goldenrod thick and thin yarn.”

Thank you Luna Grey Fiber Arts!
