(Jonny included five fossil rocks from Back Creek.)
In the summer of 2009, at the sight of a large gaping hole in our front porch, we realized that we had to address the fact that portions of it were rotting. Jonny suggested that we replace the rotten boards and be done with it.
Being the unreasonable type, I said, “Wouldn’t flagstone be nice? Oooooh, and how about stacked stone columns!”
I had no idea what I was saying. No idea.
In August of 2009 work began.
We don’t remember 2010.
In 2011 work on the porch picked up again.
On December 29th 2011, the eve of my 34th birthday, Jonny worked into the night hoping to finish as a gift to me.
On August 17, 2012 Jonny completed the final step on this little front porch project. He’s proud of his work, and has possibly forgotten that he originally just wanted to replace a few boards (and forgiven me.)
Thank you, Jonny.

I have just fallen in love with your house! I have always wanted a house with a large porch out the front and yours is just beautiful. This was definitely worth the wait!
Wow! Awesome!
It’s beautiful and such a warm and pretty entry!!!! Johnny ROCKS! 😀
WOW! This is amazing. What persistence and talent!

It is so beautiful!!! Absolutely breath taking!!! Please tell Johnny what a fantastic job he and the other man did!!!! You are truly blessed! You have great taste and I love the little extras that were added.
Trust me, Jonny’s reading comments today too! Thank you! I have to add though that the other guy was just here to help with the concrete part. Jonny did all the flagstone and rock work by himself.
OH! It took my BREATH away! So pretty! GREAT job, Johnny! And *helpful* intrigued kiddos!!!
It is beautiful…and so much hard work! Many years of pleasure~ ♥
So sweet. And it turned out really great! Good job Jonny!
That looks so pretty! Wow, what a great job!
This was so worth the wait—–absolutely perfect in every way; adore those columns!!! How lucky you are to have someone so handy (I live with a Bob Villa wannabe, which usually means, he will start something; mess it up beyond our repair and have to pay twice as much to have it rescued!!!)
WOW! It’s absolutely gorgeous. Truly. What an entrance to your home.
Good work Jonny!
It looks fantastic! Well done, Jonny!
Absolutely gorgeous! I’ll bet you can’t stop admiring it. 🙂 Hmmm, this gives me an idea…hey honey…come see these pics…what do you think about doing that out front?! LOL!!

Great job, Jonny!
It actually was him…
Wow Jonny-it looks GREAT! I’m so impressed! I can’t wait to see it in person! Less than 3 weeks now until we’re there! Woo-hoo!

Well done, Jonny. It’s beautiful! Excellent work that you will enjoy for years and years to come.
Gorgeous and I LOVE the fossil rocks that were incorporated-clever and very meaningful. Now you can sit and knit and enjoy your outdoors 🙂
How fun to watch the kids grow and change in your pictures as well as the beautiful porch!
It looks beautiful!
I remember you mentioning the front porch a time or two and am so happy to see it all from start to finish. It looks wonderful!
Epic indeed Ginny! It looks amazing, beautiful, a labor of love. I especially like the animal prints…something to remember it by…
m.
before i read what you wrote i thought that the porch had been done all in one weekend! lol
it is beautiful. great work!
Ha! We estimated that each column alone took about 14 hours to build. Rock work is crazy time consuming.
Ginny- It’s gorgeous!!!! Congrats to Jonny- he did an amazing job!
great job, well worth the wait
Good things come to those who wait. It is lovely.
This looks awesome! You will enjoy it for many years to come! Looks like it was quite a lot of work, as anything worth doing is!
Gorgeous. Absolutely, stunningly, breathtakingly gorgeous. (I am having some serious porch envy right now…) xo
It’s beautiful Ginny! Great job, Jonny!
utterly epic, but what a welcome to come home too.
Beautiful and a gift you will enjoy for a very long time!
I’ll chime in with the others, this looks beautiful. What a great idea and a great husband for following his wife’s idea. Congrats on finishing!

It’s a gift of love Ginny and so very pretty. I know you and your beautiful family are going to enjoy any hours using your new porch.
absolutely beautiful!
Beautiful!!! My husband LOVES flagstone. I can’t wait to show him your pictures. 🙂
What an amazing project! Well done!
Your eloquent photos made the process seem almost effortless, like something you could have done over the weekend. The time and hard work it took is of course obvious; especially love the fossil rocks, the paw print and the beautifully stacked stone columns.
Really perfectly done, Jonny.
Lilli
It’s beautiful!
Beautiful!!!
So incredibly beautiful that I am asking my husband for the exact same thing for my birthday!
Epic indeed, but very much worth it. It looks wonderful :o)
having had a house where we did everything ourselves (renovations, remodeling and the like) i know this!! the flagstone is perfect (just like you knew it would be)! it adds the perfect look to the front! and you can cross this off the list!
That is absolutly beautiful.
Maybe it took a lot of time, but it is gorgeous!
