Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

Yarn Along

I finished reading Ida Elizabeth on Monday in a race to have it finished before our book club met to discuss it that evening.  I was convinced that light reading would be next on my agenda, but then our friend Joe brought me his copy of The Betrothed, highly recommending that I read it.  I am going to give it a shot.  I am also reading Seeing Trees, and getting very excited about fall.  We will be bringing back some tree and forest study to our days.  The photography in Seeing Trees is amazing.  The book takes an in depth look at ten of the most common species of trees in North America and it’s really fascinating.

I am working on the neckband of Beatrix’s blue cardigan: my last step before it’s finished.  Neckbands can be tricky, getting those stitches picked up just so.

I just stumbled upon this page and the book about trees caught my attention. We moved to our current house almost three years ago. It’s been a tough three years for my young family, full of surgeries and illness. As unusual as it sounds, I’ve recognized God’s presence time and time again within the branches of the giant maple outside my window. Its strength and abundance and beauty have helped me understand God in a new way. I often think of Psalm 19 when I look at my tree… creation pouring forth speech. I can’t wait to read this book! Many blessings to you!

i’m loving the fact that you are making up beatrix’s cardi as you go along! i’m not brave enough to attempt that with a sweater yet.i tend to make a lot of things for heads, hands and feet, and i’ve only just allowed myself to go ahead and do as i feel as i go along, incorporating changes as i shape or decorate them.and the color of the wool you are using is so rich and pretty–beatrix is a very lucky little girl! and you’ve inspired me to attempt “winging it” with a sweater for one of my grandsons, allowing me to start out small and work up my nerve as i go! thank you for sharing!!! (now to go dig in my stash and see what i have for a 7 or 11yr old boy…hmmm…) 🙂

I am eagerly thinking about homeschooling materials/content too. I figure I should get some good solid ideas down before the baby comes…and the whirl wind begins. Tree study sounds right up our alley.

ps- I don’t know if you’ve been over since I switched…I’m now Hullabaloo Homestead…formerly known as Earth Mama 101. Didn’t want to confuse you 😉

Hope all is well with your swarm and tree clean up and everything. I love that Bea still falls asleep in the ergo. Lake fell asleep in my lap the other night while I was reading to the kids at bedtime. I don’t know how much longer that will happen. It’s a rarity even at this point!

Hi Ginny! I am finally knitting again! It looks like you and I may be working on the same cardigan pattern, though I have only just started. Beatrix’s sweater is looking very pretty. (And I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that Bea is looking so big and so much like Larkspur these days!!)

When you wrote the other day I had just been thinking of you, I loved your beautiful special place photos. We have had so many deer everywhere, several flocks of turkeys on the back roads the other day, with their little chicks almost invisible in the tall grasses. We have been seeing bears too!
    Love to you, Renee

That is such a lovely blue! I hate picking up stitches but I’m currently knitting a cardigan that will require a lot of picking up stitches, not only at the neck. But it is such a pretty pattern so I’ll have to suck it up I guess =)

We are definitely loving all the huge trees here in VA. Love that color of blue. So pretty. I agree that neckbands can be tricky. I picked up a few too many stitches on the last one and ended up redoing it. I am much happier with it.

I wish there was an easier way to pick up stitches, I find it the hardest part of knitting.
