I finished the body of my sweater and it fits snugly. I am hoping that means that it will fit with a bit of room after I block it. Most complaints I have read about the February Lady Sweater seem to be in relation to it being too big. I am almost finished with the first sleeve, and will hopefully finish this project soon! I have also knit a few rows on the Oaklet shawl I began awhile back. It’s almost time to begin the lace edging. I wanted to photograph the two projects together at least once, because they remind me of my favorite color scheme when I was a little girl. I called pink with green “watermelon colors” and liked to dress in them. Recently I have noticed Larkspur doing the same, and at the same age that I did.
During the height of everyone’s illness I pulled our Catwings books off the shelf and read the first of the series of four to the girls while we snuggled up in my bed. In the days since, these books have been passed around from child to child. We all love them, even me. Something about the thought of cats with wings I guess.
I began reading A Good and Perfect Gift on Monday and have already read nearly half of it. That’s the fastest reading that I’ve done in some time. The story is written by a mom about the birth of her first child, a daughter who has Down Syndrome. Down Syndrome has been a beautiful part of my family since the day my sister Erin was born, on my tenth birthday in fact. I’ll never forget the way my dad snuck my siblings and me up a back stairway at the hospital and into my stepmom’s room so we could quickly get a peek at our new baby sister.
Aww.. Catwings was one of my feel better books too when I was small. I’m glad to see that it is still making the rounds.
I’ll have to check out Catwings…I think my girls would like it.

Ginny, the FLS looks like it is going to be wonderful! I love the subtle variations of green in it. I rather envy that your knitting is coming along so quickly! With a garden and school and sewing and all, you still manage to get it done! I’m not joining in today due to some technical difficulties with my laptop, but I had to check in and see what you were up to!

I never before heard anyone talk of Catwings! My daughters love it. It’s amazing size has it loved in back pockets, backpack pouches and tiny purses. I just love the illustrations. And the green you’re knitting with – it’s just perfect…
I love the summer that’s implied by the watermelon colors! I wrote about spring and my yarns that say it to me this week. I can feel it in the air and I am sooo ready! Your colors add nicely.
Somehow I hated being dressed in pink when I was little. Now that I have kids I like it a little more, but it’s still not my favorite. I just like to dress my boy in his sister’s cloths to confuse everyone. Deeps green is always a favorite of mine, thought.
When they offered me the test to know if my baby had the syndrome (the test is free in our province) we politely refuse saying we were having a baby to love him/her no matter what. We did the same second time around.

I can’t wait to see the finished February Lady Sweater. I’ve seen quite a few of these recently and it always seems (to me) that they hang rather too loose. It sounds like yours is going to fit very flatteringly instead!

Love the watermelon colors! 🙂 I can imagine with so much lace work in FLS it’d stretch. I’m linking to my first-ever lace project and that was my #1 worry. But knitting a smaller size tends to have helped so far!

You know I have Catwings on my shelf but never read it. Can’t even remember what it’s about. But if your kids and you have passed it around with love, then it must be pretty good! Yay for all the knitting – love the Oaklet shawl color. Very springy.
We share similar tastes in children’s books though I’ve never heard of the Catwings series. I’ve been searching for something new to read to my daughter – and now I know what it’ll be. I just ordered them! Thanks for sharing.
