Last night, while watching Wuthering Heights with Jonny, I finished my February Lady Sweater. Without even weaving in the ends, I immediately jumped up and put it on. It looked pretty frumpy. There was funny armpit bunching and it was definitely on the small side. I poured my hopes into the washing and blocking. I prepared to console myself with the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed knitting this sweater, and used stash yarn that I bought on super sale years ago. I shouldn’t expect too much from my first attempt to knit myself a sweater.
BUT OH MY GOODNESS, THIS SWEATER ENDED UP BEING PERFECT!
I hope that didn’t come across like prideful bragging. It wasn’t meant to be. I am just a little bit happy.
I coaxed Jonny outside today for a very serious fashion shoot to document this very important first in my little knitting world.
(Begging Jonny to stop what he’s doing-he was being so dorky ridiculous.)
Trudy has no respect for hand knits and actually hooked a claw in an eyelet. No damage done though.
p.s. I typed up extensive Ravelry notes here.
I knit this with Cascade 220 and used cedar buttons from Wooly Moss Roots.
I must say that the Cascade ended up being a very pleasant surprise. It makes a lovely garment.
p.p.s. We were watching this version of Wuthering Heights, but I’ll forever love Lord Laurence Olivier because of this one.
(and obviously, Jonny took all these photos.)

Will have to put that pattern on my list… Lovely. So happy for you that your sweater turned out!
Blessings, ~Lisa
Gorgeous!
I did not see what the hype about the February lady sweater was, until I saw you in yours! I love it! You look so beautiful in it, too. Now excuse me while I go cast on a sweater…
the sweater is beautiful, ginny. i can’t believe that this is the first one that you’ve knitted for yourself, what with all of the amazing, accomplished knitting that you do. i’m glad that you took the time to make something so beautiful for yourself!
Absolutely beautiful!
Checking out your ravelry notes since it looks like it would be a great nursing sweater too!
beautiful!
That is a BEAUTIFUL sweater! I can see why you’d be well pleased with the results. 🙂
This sweater is so beautiful! And you are beautiful too. 🙂
So, so lovely!!! Now I really want to make one. I love the color and it just looks so perfect on you. Wonderful job!
The prettiest hand-knit sweater I have ever seen!! Just lovely!!
Ginny, you are so pretty, and your sweater is gorgeous!
That is gorgeous! Goodness! I am in awe. Simply love it.
My fifteen year old is currently reading Wuthering Heights. It was a fascinating book for me. Hating the protagonists because they were so stinking evil, yet loving the book. I think my daughter is feeling the same way!
Wow! It looks fabulous on you! It’s been in my knitting pile forever and I’ve never been brave enough to knit a sweater for myself. Thanks for the motivation – I’m off to start knitting my very own February Lady, hope I can get it done by February 🙂
You should be happy and bragging, the sweater is gorgeous! And it fits so good! Congratulations!
By the way, I’d like to thank you for the wooly moss buttons giveaway, Taryn already contacted me and she was so sweet to agree to ship the buttons internationally. Thank you!
Ginny, beautiful cardigan! I enjoy so much and look forward each time to read your blog, that on my first blog anniversary I’m passing a little sunshine your way. I’m nominating you for the Versatile Blogger Award!

It’s gorgeous! I want to knit that sweater but have been scared to thus far because it seems like they are either amazing, or a total flop. Yours, is amazing! Congrats!
LOVe LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It is perfect! Congrats on the accomplishment and having it work out so well in the end!
:)Lisa
It looks lovely on you! How wonderful to have knit something lovely for yourself. I really like that first photo, you look delicate and fragile and beautiful. And the second photo with the ribbon hanging over, and the last photo is great too…
The sweater is beautiful!!!! You are an inspiration…
Your photos are splendid. Wonderful smiles.
beautiful sweater!!! and i know all to well that moment when you find out it actually fits…elation.
Oh my goodness, it is absolutely stunning!
Love it love it love it! It’s way too lovely for words.
I love it! It’s amazing, Ginny. And you don’t sound like you’re bragging! You’re honestly proud of your accomplishment…and you deserve to be!
Gorgeous!!!! It’s amazing how blocking can fix nearly everything. It looks lovely on you and the fit is perfection 🙂
GREAT job!! It looks lovely on you! The color is stunning!
Congratulations! Your first sweater! It looks fabulous and comfy!
Lovely sweater and lovely you! My older two read WH and then we watched both those versions…actually didn’t finish either…nothing like the books. Heathcliff and Cathy (Kathy?) were too likeable in the films and too old. My kids said they were really nasty brats in the book. :). But we loved Olivier in Hamlet.
It is beautiful! That color is perfect! My sister made me one several years ago in a sturdy blue wool and it has been my favorite sweater ever since. It has held up so well and the shape of this design is wonderful.
Beautiful. Love the color. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely sweater, lovely lady!! Be proud of your wonderful work, and yes, its perfectly OK to brag about it. 🙂
It looks beautiful! Can’t believe it’s the first one you’ve ever knit for yourself. My first sweater looks like a giant, overstretched lump of faded wool. Hmmm.
I L-o-v-e it! Beautiful color, pattern, buttons…the whole 9 yards(but maybe there is a better knitting kind-of phrase?) : )
it does look absolutely PERFECT! I’ve only ever made knits for little ones before, and shawls, maybe I need to plan ahead for winter 2012 and brave a sweater for myself… this looks like a lovely one to start with.
Gorgeous!
It looks just perfect! So nice!
Lovely!
It’s Marvelous! And so perfect on you!
It looks amazing! Looks like a totally perfect fit and I love this photo series! Feelings of pride for such an accomplishment don’t need apology 🙂
It really looks great! Glad your first sweater for yourself was such a positive experience!
LOVE the sweater, Ginny. That top closure style is my favorite. You are beautiful.
Nicola
Looks beautiful Ginny, fits you just perfect.
i am just bursting with pride for you.
Simply stunning and it looks fabulous on you 🙂
Very pretty and I love the color. Great photos too!
Just gorgeous! Thanks for sharing the beauty!
Ahem, I knitted myself a February Lady Sweater in Cascade 220 in green- I think it’s called Irelande(from Webs). But mine is bigger and I like your modifications. I think at some point I could/will use them. Thanks for all the Ravelry notes!
I forgot to say that you look very lovely in that!
Ginny- it turned out BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! Everything about it is perfect- the size, the drape- everything!!! I am so excited for you! I am knitting Quince & Co.’s Annabel right now, hope it turns out half as nice! (Geez- that’s a lot of exclaimation marks. Sorry.)
It’s lovely, Ginny. Your garments always inspire me to knit. Although, I’m sure I’ll need to take a class. I taught myself to crochet but knitting seems less forgiving to me, I’ll definitely need some help.
Ginny, you look absolutely gorgeous! And the sweater is fabulous! Great job.
