~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

Well, there wasn’t much knitting for me this week. But, I did cast on a sweater using some yarn that’s been sitting in my stash for too long, and it’s a sweater for me! Both my knitting project and my book this week have been inspired by other Yarn Along-ers. I have had the February Lady sweater in my queue on Ravelry for ages, but it was seeing Joy’s that convinced me to finally cast on (thanks Joy!) I finished reading This Life is in Your Hands a few days ago, and desperate for a lighter read, I picked up The Knitter’s Home Companion thanks to Lori, who mentioned this book in a Yarn Along post a few weeks ago (thanks Lori!) This book is a lovely little collection of stories, patterns, and recipes. Silas has taken to reaching back to grab my knitting when he’s nursing, resulting in more than one dropped stitch. Reading is safer, and if I can’t actually knit, at least I can read about knitting. And speaking of reading, check out Ellen’s Yarn Along Library List! It’s a PDF you can print inspired by all of the books that you shared last month!
free pattern here.
yarn here.
ravelry notes here.

I love all the inspiration I get from yarn alongers, knitting and reading wise. So much goodness everywhere!
Just knitting up a little toddler vest with a pattern from Sam at http://samlamb.blogspot.com/2010/07/toddler-t-shirt-vest.html
with some wonderful handspun yarn. And have you seen the knitting video “The last knit” on You Tube yet? Hilarious 🙂
Happy Knitting! Gesche
A serious catch-up post for me today — 4 Newbery winners reviewed and 3 knitting projects shown! Happy knitting, crocheting, reading, and sharing, everyone!
I just finished my first February Baby Sweater and I really want to try an adult size. The color is lovely. 🙂
How do you knit and nurse at the same time?! I’m expecting my second baby very soon, and I would love to know how to do that. Although, hehe, I realize that might be something I just need to figure out by myself – it could be a little awkward to write a “how to” post on that topic!
I love that this is an ALL Yarn Along post. That’s how I get all my inspiration.
That sweater is too pretty. Glad you’re making something for yourself. It already looks pretty.
Don’t have much time to comment this morning. Have one in need of a diaper change and one practicing guitar music that needs a keen listener. Love the yarn color, will have to check out the pattern later! Thank you for Yarn Along. It’s been really enjoyable!
I LOVE the yarn along library list idea!
I’ve never made a FLS, but have it on my “want to make” list. Just never seem to get around to it! LOL. Never enough time to do all the crafting one wants to, is there?
That is such a lovely shade of green! And the book you are reading sounds like something I would really enjoy. Checking to see if my library carries it! 🙂
And…oh my how wonderful of an idea it was to make a Yarn Along Library List! Thanks Ellen! 🙂
One of my 12 12s in 2012 goals is to look through 12 different knitting or crochet books. I’m really enjoying the introduction to different techniques and ideas!
Yarn Along Library List = a brilliant idea! Thanks for sharing!
I really want to knit a sweater for myself someday, but I’m much too afraid still, mainly of how long it would take me! Love the color!
Have you made the baby socks in the More Last Minute Knitted Gifts? I just learned how to knit them….and I am hooked!!! Good thing I know people with babies! 🙂
I have had the February lady cardigan on my to knit list for way too long. I can’t wait to see yours. Maybe it will inspire me to finally getting around to casting on one for myself. 🙂 I think I need to see if my library carries your current book. I keep reading good things about it!
Have been meaning to cast on a “tea leaves” forever in exactly that color–it’s lovely!
What a great knit! I desperately want to make a sweater for me… but who has the time (or the patience!) I can’t wait to see it finished!
The last book I read was a knitty book, The Knitting Circle. It was very good, but emotional. I think I need a very light read. I’ll have to take a look at that book list.
Love the book choice! The author is local to me and I’m glad to see that she’s making the yarn along rounds! 🙂
I really love my FLS. It does grab people’s attention too. I blocked it recently and am not sure I like it as well. It grew a bit too much. I may need to work on that. And oh how I remember those grabby little hands.
i can’t wait to see your february lady sweater…that has been in my queue forever. fortunately i’m still in the stage where i can nurse and knit, unfortunately i’m knitting with a yarn that has silk content and between the silk and my addis, i’ve dropped countless stitches only to realize it later thus having to tink back. two steps forward, four steps back (at least for me) 😉
I have yet to knit myself something. I think I’ve knit everyone else in the family something! 😉 Sounds like a good book – Kristin
Beautiful color! My little one has gotten to be a more squirmy nurser so it’s making it hard for me as well 🙂
Ginny, I know that book was heavy for me and I have started a much lighter one as well!
That green yarn you are using is beautiful.
Happy to join today. I don’t usually (actually never have). So I guess this is my first time. Happy to be here.
The Knitter’s Home Companion does look good. Thanks for the link up. I can’t wait to see yours as it progresses. Can you believe that I don’t even have a Yarn Along this week? The first time in a year, probably, that I haven’t played along. I haven’t even knit a single stitch in a week, also probably a year since that has happened. Too much going on with Elizabeth’s play and now getting the house back in order after the play. I’m back to knitting today though. I’m in withdrawal!
Love the color! And the book sounds wonderful.
You chose such a lovely colour for your sweater. I am wanting to knit something for myself as well sometimes soon!
Love the green!
Your yarn color is beautiful — green is my favorite color but I never think to knit with it. As for the sweater, it pops up so often on knitter’s list … there must be something to it!
love the green yarn you’re using! can’t wait to see the finished sweater 🙂
That’s awesome. I have many sweaters I’d like to knit myself, but the commitment you have to make in yarn and time is so big! I’m much more likely to knit my 2 yo a sweater. =/ =]
Now you are inspiring me! I have also had February Lady in my queue forever, but I don’t think I’ll get to it any time soon. That book, on the other hand…I’ll have to see if it’s available at my library… xo
I love all the inspiration and tips I gain from the yarn along. So thankful for it.
I ordered Knitter’s Home Companion a couple weeks ago and it finally arrived. Really excited to read it after all the good things I have heard about it.
I love that about your Yarn Along – all of the inspiration that grows along the woolen way. Inspiration for knitting projects, yarn selections, reading material, and finding new-to-me blogs: what’s NOT to love?
Blessings…
I’ve gone ahead and requested the book to be held at the bookstore !
That is a fabulous sweater and I love your yarn choice!
Glad you can use up some of your stash – that is such a Springy green and I love it! I have heard much about that book and will have to make it a priority to read.
I saw Lori’s mention of that book and I put it on my list. It sounds delightful. Ah that is a great solution. If you can’t knit, read about it.
xo
I have been wanting to make myself something for a while–I don’t know if I have the nerve to try the Feb Lady’s Sweater, but I may try a Tea Leaves…
I borrowed that book from the library – it is very sweet and funny and soothing. Love the little stories mixed in with the knitting patterns and recipes. And they all seem simple, do-able, usable patterns too.
I posted the library list!
I love the FLS. It’s so beautiful. Can’t wait to see how yours comes out.
That does sounds like a lovely book – I will look forward to checking it out 🙂
the febuary lady sweater will look great in that green. After seing your ‘scarf with no name’ I learnt to knit lace to knit one myself (this weeks finished object:) Perhaps this will be in my not too far off future too!
I love yarn along and just started to read the rest of your blog. I also homeschool, knit and read a lot to my kids. – Thanks
Hi Ginny,
Sorry for posting twice, my first link, the Shamrock Pattern is not showing my web page properly, please feel free to delete it. I have reposted it again as Linda-Natural Suburbia.
Warm regards
Linda
Sounds like my sort of book Ginny. Love the green of your yarn against the bright oranges in the background, making me want to eat oranges now 🙂 And belated Happy Birthday wishes to your Larkspur! x
Love that colour Ginny, it’s going to look great on you.
I’ve added the Knitter’s Home companion to my list. It does sound my sort of book.
It is indeed a lovely book.
I love knitting with Cascade 220 yarns and I have made the FLS once. I would definitely make it again, it was such a nice pattern to follow. Thanks for hosting the yarn along!!
I enjoyed making the February Lady sweater… it goes by quickly and I frequently wear it. Love the color of yours! And just as a side note, you and I had a very similar blog posts yesterday! Happy Birthday to Your 6 year old!
I have been wanting to knit a February sweater for the longest time so I am very excitd to see yours. I hope you enjoy the book, it’s one of my favorites.
