~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
It’s February 1 and Valentine’s Day will be here shortly. I do believe that true love is knitting 30 cm of ribbing, so that’s what I am doing this week because Jonny needs a new hat. He isn’t picky at all, so he didn’t get involved in choosing the pattern (well he claims he isn’t picky–but I doubt he would wear a super dorky hat.) I am following the Yarn Harlot’s Lorne’s Hat pattern because I really wanted to make sure that the hat would be snug, and all that ribbing ensures that it will be. I meant to have it finished by now, but goodness, all that ribbing. Valentine’s Day at the latest….
I am reading These Happy Golden Years this week, and right now I feel like it is my favorite of all the Little House books. I love reading about Almanzo’s courtship of Laura; the sweetness and the innocence of it all. Which Little House book is your favorite?

Hi… a friend of mine has yarn she’d like to donate. Do you still take contributions for the women you teach to knit?? If so, please contact me at yankeegroomer@aol.com. If not, could you let me know, please? She wants to find someone who will use her yarn.
Many thanks, (I adore your blog!) Daryl in Maine
Ginny, I somehow didn’t get the link in to your yarn along at first, but now I’ve added it! Sorry about the slip up. You can see it at http://twyste.com/2012/02/01/yarn-along-easy-free-2-words-i-like-in-front-of-cowls/. Also, I added a page of free and easy patterns on my site that you or your readers may enjoy http://freeandsimpleknittingpatterns.blogspot.com/
I thought I was crazy but I immediately thought of The Long Winter…but I see I am not alone. Not sure why I liked it, but I did. The Happy Golden Years broke my heart. It bursted the bubble of the perfect world the series created, where she left out all the really tragic events of her life.
I am kind of slacking on my knitting this week, boo. But I had to chime in because I LOVE Little House books, I love the Big Woods, I love Plum Creek, when I was little I did not just love Farmer Boy too much, but I really love it now that I am older. Seriously, they are all really good and I am guilty of still reading all of them from time to time!
i love the little house series as well.
my favorite has to be “the long winter” i must have read that dozens of times as a little girl!
I remember walking to the library in Jr high (about 50 years ago) and checking out these books.
I enjoy so much looking at others knitting and adding books to my reading list. Thank you
Love, love, love the Little House series. I even used the Prairie Primer for a year with our homeschool and I have to say that my favorites are Little House on the Prarie and The Long Winter. We did so many fun activities with it , like soap-making, yarn dying, sewing, quilting and cooking. Not sure if my kids were as enthused as me: I think I was born in the wrong century!
