Frosty

We had our first frost this week.  Yesterday we burned our first fire in the woodstove.  We heat exclusively with wood (we do have a heat pump, but in this drafty little old house?? hello four hundred fifty dollar power bills!), and we are way behind on gathering firewood for the winter.  I guess Jonny has some work to do (doesn’t he always!)
Last night we switched bedrooms upstairs with Keats and Gabe.  The best part of rearranging is how clean everything is when we are finished!  I clean every square inch when we move furniture, baseboards and all.  I love knowing that it’s even clean underneath all the furniture.  I am hoping that Beatrix might sleep better in the back bedroom rather than the one we were in at the top of the stairs.  Jonny may end up building a wall to divide the two rooms (our upstairs is just those two rooms), as right now they are just separated by a chimney and a small hallway.  Next spring we will have our two little girls and a baby in our bedroom.  That seems a bit much.  It is starting to sink in that we are really going to have to either move or start an addition.  I suspect we will end up moving.  At the rate things happen around here, an addition would take years 🙂  For now we need to focus on a new roof and the flagstone front porch project, new gutters, repairing rotting windows, pressure washing and staining the house, and painting the trim.  Does that sound overwhelming?  Maybe just a bit.  I better focus on something else entirely.
p.s.  Thanks so much for the great response to my Yarn Along post yesterday.  I had a big smile on my face all day.  You are all so nice to play along with me.  I will keep posting these on Wednesday for awhile, and we’ll see how it goes.  I figure that it’s easier just to do it every week rather than trying to keep up with every other, and people can just participate on weeks when they want to.
