Beatrix is turning one on Monday and I am working hard so that we can give her a special handmade first birthday. It is good to have something happy and fun to focus on. Her quilt is almost finished, two felted knit balls are finished, and next up is a birthday crown. Just because she’s the youngest of many, doesn’t mean that we’re going to let her big day pass without a fuss. If I can get my act together, I plan on getting her birth story written down to share here on her birthday. Can you believe that between four births, three of which were homebirths, I have never recorded a single one? I want to do better, really I do.
We are getting lots of eggs, and managing to eat them all. Our typical breakfast lately is oatmeal and fried eggs.
For the first time ever I think, we are heading into winter with plenty of firewood. Of course, Jonny still has to split it.
The other night I had a few minutes to start knitting a little hat for a friend’s new baby. Now, if I could just find a few minutes to finish it. Knitting in front of the fire is so cozy and happy.
Seth couldn’t handle waiting to hear Jonny or I read The Yearling, a chapter or two each night, so he finished it on his own in a matter of a day or two. I still want to read it again myself but I am not sure when that will happen.
Larkspur is such a little hoarder. Today one of the boys opened this drawer in the living room revealing a pile of echinacea seed heads and fuschia mums. As the drawer was being opened, Larkspur quickly gasped, “Oh no!”
As in “oh no, I am so busted for cutting mommy’s flowers and piling them up in this drawer.” It was pretty funny.
