Repurposing

It has been in the back of my mind for awhile that I wanted to purchase a long metal strip to use with those magnetic metal clips to display the kids artwork. It occurred to me that using a metal object not originally intended for this purpose would be a lot more interesting than a purchased metal strip. The other night around 11 p.m. I told Jonny that I needed some sort of long piece of metal to hang on the wall for displaying the kids drawings. He thought for a minute and then remembered an old saw that the boys discovered awhile back in what we call the “lower shop.” Our house is very old and it has two outbuildings that had a good bit of old “stuff” in them when we moved in. I told him that the saw sounded cool, and he asked me if I wanted it right now (hoping of course I would say no). But of course I wanted to see the saw right then that very moment, so he grabbed a flashlight and went to get it. Once he brought it in I couldn’t believe how perfect it was for the job. The wall that he hung it on is connected to Larkspur’s room. She yelled, “stop that!” when Jonny hammered the anchors in, but then went right back to sleep. I guess we are not nice parents for doing that sort of thing late at night, but it was really quick. I was afraid that our house would look a little too much like a Cracker Barrel with a saw on the wall; not that I have anything against CB, that’s just not exactly my decorating style. However, the novelty of it outweighs my concerns, not to mention that I now have a place to hang the kids art, and it was free! We do love figuring out new ways to use old stuff!
