spring cleaning and knitting, but I’m supposed to be sewing

I keep cleaning things, things that I don’t usually clean.  I cleaned out the oven by hand the other day.  I can’t actually remember the last time I did that.  Then there’s the cabinet under the kitchen sink.  I cleaned that out.  Today I was at the kitchen sink washing this and that for what must have been hours.  I also carried my kitchen stool outside so that I could reach the kitchen windows and clean them.  I mentioned to Jonny this strange compulsion I have to clean right now, and the fact that I have no idea why I feel this way.  He answered that I am obviously doing “spring cleaning.”  Duh.  The funny thing is that the more extra cleaning I do, the messier my house gets.  Doing something extra means letting something else go.

I’m knitting like crazy on that lacy scarf.  I want to finish it badly so I can cast on something else, of course.  I keep adding “one more” lace repeat.  If I block it and it ends up a mile long I am going to be so upset.  It’s hard to know when to stop.

Larkspur’s birthday is one week away.  I have the fabric that she chose cut out and ready to sew into her birthday dress, but can’t seem to get started on the actual sewing part.  I have a friend helping to translate a french pattern for a second dress, and I am wondering how I am going to accomplish everything in time.  I may not.  Larkspur informed me that I am not to wrap her birthday dress, but give it to her to wear while she opens her other presents.  The second dress is supposed to be wrapped, that is if it gets made in time.

The girls and I played a fun game of memory this afternoon.  Because Beatrix is little and our set has so many cards it seems, we have our own rules.  On each turn you are allowed to turn over three cards rather than two.  If you get a match, you don’t get to go again.

Silas’s two bottom teeth are almost through.  Well, one is, and one is almost there.  He has discovered the stairs, and of course that’s his favorite place to head now the second he thinks no one is looking (we’re always looking.)  He giggles with glee when we call, “Siiiiilaaaaaas.”  It’s time to buy a baby gate.  Somehow we never have one when we need it.

Okay, I am going to go knit another repeat on that scarf, and then another maybe.  Then maybe I’ll bind it off.
